Garden To Table empowers school communities with gardens and curriculum to engage all students in experiential outdoor education. Garden To Table provides gardens, curriculum, training and support to schools in Boulder County. Currently serving 18 elementary schools, our program connects with 300+ teachers and more than 6,500 students. We provide everything a school needs to maintain a garden and use it for teaching and learning. Our Garden Team makes weekly check-ups to ensure gardens are thriving, and our standards-based curriculum includes lesson plans for grades PreK through 5th, addressing science concepts while engaging students in gardening tasks. Our Program Team provides instructional resources and consultation to support teachers in program implementation.
Job description
Position Summary: The primary roles of the Garden Educator will be teaching garden lessons in the fall and spring and assisting with summer programming. Winter months will be spent collaborating with staff, wrapping up and preparing for the active lesson seasons, and working on program-related projects and improvements as needed. Garden to Table is a small organization, where all staff work together to advance the mission. All staff are encouraged to actively engage in discussion and activities to improve outcomes. Collaboration and camaraderie are key to the success of our small staff.
Job Status: Part time, with seasonal variation
Aug-Oct & Feb-May - 15 hours/week
Jun-Jul & Oct-Feb - 5 hours/week
Position Term: Year round, with 5 weeks of unpaid time off
Pay Rate: $22-26/hr based on experience, reimbursement for mileage between schools, and cell phone stipend
Location and Conditions: This position is based in Boulder and Broomfield Counties, Colorado. Work is done at various school garden sites and inside school buildings. Remote
work is necessary when school facilities are unavailable or when gardens are not active.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Lead garden lessons for grades PK-5 at 3 high-needs, bilingual elementary schools
2. Build relationships with school administration, teachers, and volunteers through in person and online communication
3. Coordinate with principals, teachers, volunteers, and Program Director for lesson scheduling and implementation of program
4. Communicate before and after lessons with necessary school and community partners
5. Assist Garden to Table team with various projects, programs and events
6. Track progress and collect data to support organizational goals
7. Manage material needs for all lessons at relevant schools
Desired Qualifications:
1. Experience working with elementary children from diverse backgrounds in an educational setting
2. Ability to teach lessons fluently in Spanish and English
3. Sensitive to physical and emotional safety for self, students, and volunteers
4. Enthusiasm for the mission of Garden to Table with a strong interest in plants, education, working outside, and environmental stewardship
5. Good stamina and strength, ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift 40 lbs
6. Comfort with Google Suite, Canva, Slack and Airtable
7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of people
8. Bachelor's Degree, ideally in education or related field
9. Car, computer, cell phone, driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance
10.Must be authorized to work in the US.

13.Connection to local community of partner schools strongly preferred
14.Able to pass Boulder Valley School District background check
