Company description
SNACC is a NYC-based nonprofit focused on hands-on food education, food access, and youth development for students and families in under-resourced communities. Through our in-school and after-school programs, we aim to reduce food insecurity while building academic engagement, life skills, confidence, and overall well-being.

SNACC is seeking a dynamic, youth-focused educator with a passion for food, wellness, and community to join our team as an Afterschool Chef and Food Educator. We’re looking for someone who loves food, understands culinary education, enjoys working with students, and brings an upbeat, fun, vibrant personality to every session.

- Take full ownership of assigned sessions from preparation through cleanup, including reviewing lesson plans, purchasing groceries, organizing materials, transporting supplies, setting up workstations, facilitating the lesson, and restoring the space.
- Facilitate programming at approximately two to three school sites or sessions per week, depending on the school calendar and assigned schedule.
- Deliver SNACC’s food education curriculum using youth-development practices and age-appropriate facilitation strategies.
- Teach foundational culinary skills, including safe knife skills, measuring, recipe reading, food preparation, teamwork, and kitchen safety.
- Create a warm, inclusive, structured, and engaging learning environment.
- Collaborate with school staff and SNACC leadership to adapt lessons to student needs and program goals.

- Serve as SNACC’s primary field trip lead (in-person) for student trips throughout the school year, taking primary responsibility for the supervision, safety, engagement, and management of all participating students during each trip.
- Coordinate field trip logistics with SNACC leadership, school staff, students, families, and external partners, including schedules, transportation details, attendance, materials, meals, and site requirements.
- Help plan and participate in student orientations, celebrations, and graduations.
- Support & oversee food preparation, setup, and cleanup for virtual & in-person activities.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering curiosity, teamwork, and creativity in the kitchen.
Plus additional tasks as assigned.

Candidates must have open availability within this window so that SNACC can determine and assign the final schedule based on program needs. Once assignments are finalized, the employee's regular schedule is expected to remain generally consistent. Employees will not work the full 1:30–7:00 p.m. window each day.
- Tuesdays: Hybrid evening programming, between approximately 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Tuesday programming will include virtual cooking sessions, with the employee participating from their own home kitchen.
Occasional schedule extensions may be required for student field trips, orientations, graduation ceremonies, special events, or other program-related activities. Candidates must be able to accommodate reasonable scheduling variations communicated in advance.
