Company description
The Centre for Faith, Art and Justice was founded as a separate non-profit in 2019 by First Baptist Church in JP (FBCJP) in order to raise funds to leverage underutilized church building space as community space. The Centre's vision is to build a just society by fostering the integration of the arts, faith, culture, education and social justice in a space open to everyone with intentional inclusion and accessibility to historically marginalized populations such as youth, women, people of color, low income, the disabled, and the LGBTQ community.
In 2019, FBCJP had been welcoming all neighbors to twice weekly hot meals for 15 years. When people were unable to attend our sit-down meal program because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we began to deliver meals. Then feeling that we could use our resources to do more to alleviate food insecurity, we also began to deliver groceries. These efforts eventually led to the current three-part delivery system comprising prepared meals, a weekly grocery pick-up food pantry, and a low cost rescued food store that together distribute over 50,000 lbs of donated and rescued food to thousands of food insecure neighbors each month. Our Food Justice Program has been recognized by the City of Boston and lauded in numerous local and city-wide publications including the Boston Globe
