Job description
Join Louisville Grows as a Landscape & Facilities Technician and help us grow a healthier, greener Louisville, one tree, garden, and neighborhood at a time. You'll be on the ground doing the hands-on work that brings our urban forestry, horticulture, and community greening programs to life, from planting and maintaining green spaces to building and repairing the structures and equipment that keep our sites running. This role is a great fit for someone with some field experience in landscaping and urban forestry, plus some hands-on carpentry and repair work, while contributing to a mission focused on environmental equity and community-centered greening.
Key Responsibilities:
Landscape & Horticulture
Assist with tree planting, staking, mulching, watering, and pruning across Louisville Grows' urban forestry sites.
Maintain community gardens, pollinator plantings, and green infrastructure installations.
Support site prep and maintenance for volunteer workdays alongside our Citizen Forester network
Monitor tree and plant health, and flag issues (pests, disease, storm damage) to program staff.
Facilities & Repair
Build and repair raised beds, fencing, tool sheds, signage, and other site structures.
Perform basic carpentry, minor repairs, and general upkeep at garden and forestry sites.
Maintain and troubleshoot hand tools, power equipment, and vehicles; coordinate repairs as needed.
Help set up and break down infrastructure for events and volunteer workdays.
General
Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and responsibly
Represent Louisville Grows professionally at partner sites and in the neighborhoods we serve
Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper lifting technique and equipment operation
Experience and Skills:
Interest in landscaping, tree care, gardening, or general grounds maintenance
Basic carpentry, repair, or handyman skills (building, fixing, and maintaining structures/equipment)
Willingness to learn plant and tree identification, planting techniques, and basic arboriculture
Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to work both independently and as part of a crew or with volunteers.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
