Job Overview
We are seeking a hands-on farmer/land steward that supports daily farm operations and land steward projects at Tamamuri. This role requires physical endurance, attention to detail, and a strong willingness to observe, learn, and adapt within a diverse working farm. The focus of this role is food production, land stewardship, and maintaining high standards across all farm systems. (Add this part for when the program starts - While this role does not require inter-departmental collaboration or guest interactions, the farm is open to onsite culinary staff and open to guests at all times. Farmers are expected to represent the farm in a positive, respectful and knowledgeable manner when encountered.)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily farm work, including planting, harvesting, crop maintenance, and post-harvest handling
- Participate in market-farming style systems including bed preparation, planting, and harvest cycles
- Support soil health and regenerative practices including composting and organic inputs
- Assist with dried herb programs, seed saving, greenhouse tomato care, and nursery operations as needed
- Assist with animal care programs including chicken and sheep holistic grazing programs
- Use and maintain farm tools and equipment safely and responsibly
- Construct and repair farm infrastructure, including fences, chicken coops, greenhouses, sheds, and aquaculture systems.
- Perform basic carpentry, plumbing (irrigation lines), and mechanical tool maintenance.
- Maintain clean, organized, and functional farm spaces
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and handling standards during harvest, processing, and storage
- Clean and maintain wash stations, tools, coolers, and storage spaces to food safety standards
- Record observations, production notes, and basic farm data using digital tools and farm software
- Communicate clearly with farm managers and team members
- Support a wide range of farm needs as they arise based on seasonal priorities and special land stewardship projects
Required Qualifications
- Prior on-farm or agricultural work experience
- Ability to perform physical farm work in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Standing, walking, squatting, harvesting, and tool-based work
- Strong interest in regenerative and sustainable farming practices
- Willingness to observe, learn, and adapt within structured farm systems
- Ability to work independently after onboarding and complete assigned tasks to specifications
- Experience using digital tools for basic record keeping including mobile applications and spreadsheets
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and professional demeanor
- Ability to work independently, lift 50 lbs, and handle physical outdoor labor in various weather conditions
Preferred/Desired Skills
- Proven hands-on experience in regenerative agriculture or organic farming.
- Strong working knowledge of permaculture principles and land management.
- Experience running and troubleshooting aquaculture or freshwater pond setups.
- Solid carpentry and building skills with a track record of safe tool operation.
- Experience with dried herbs, seed saving, propagation, or nursery systems
- Experience caring for greenhouse crops and nursery plants
- Experience with livestock productions systems
- Experience operation or working around small -scale farm machinery and equipment
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $18.00 - $22.00
