Salad Days is a hydroponic farm that specializes in growing pesticide free produce and is able to supply a wide variety of lettuce 365 days a year. The farm is family owned and operated in Flora, Mississippi by Jamie Redmond and Leigh Bailey.

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using nutrient-rich water instead of soil. This process reduces water consumption, eliminates soil-borne contaminants, and produces consistently fresh, high-quality greens.

Our specially designed re-circulating hydroponic methods save land, conserve water, eliminate agricultural runoff and chemical pesticides, and offer the benefits of efficient, high-yield, local, and year-round food production.

Salad Days uses far less water than traditional field-grown agriculture. Our water is recycled and used multiple times, reducing the amount necessary by as much as 80% over crops grown outdoors.

We can produce the equivalent of approximately 20 acres in our 65,000 square foot controlled environment greenhouse. This keeps our land use requirements at a minimum.

Our crops are grown, cared for, and harvested to achieve optimum taste and nutrition. Our products are often harvested just a few hours before they reach a restaurant plate or supermarket shelf, ensuring absolute freshness and nutrition.

Salad Days is GAP/GHP certified and routinely audited by the USDA. Our clean, controlled growing environment helps minimize the risk of contamination and foodborne illness. We also do not use animal waste fertilizers, reducing the risk of bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella.

Salad Days grows high-quality produce year-round in a controlled indoor environment, protecting crops from weather-related disruptions and ensuring consistent quality.

Job description

The roles and responsibilities of this job include growing and management of the crop, maintenance and repair of the facility and equipment, and contributing with the daily operations and managing other employees.

Within the growing and managing of the crop, there includes monitoring and adjusting nutrient solutions, pH, EC, and water quality daily. Also involved are the controlling of climate settings such as temperature, humidity, and ventilation for optimal leafy green yields. Finally, there is helping handle the propagation, transplanting, and continuous harvesting schedules of the crop.

Within the realm of maintenance and repair, you will need to perform hands-on plumbing, small electrical repairs, mechanical troubleshooting, and tweak semi-automated systems daily.

For the operations systems and labor management side of this position there is a wide array of possibilities, depending on the day. There includes keeping the facility clean, sanitized, and compliant with food safety standards, as well as managing inventory of seeds, nutrients, packaging materials, and other essential materials.

This job also includes the need to lift heavy harvest totes, stand for long periods, and work in hot and humid conditions.

There is also an expectation of managing up to 20 to 30 people within the operation daily.

Qualifications and education requirements include at least a bachelors degree in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field, with 1 to 3 years experience, or if you do not have a degree, then 3 to 6 years experience are required in an agricultural hands-on/working management type role.

We are looking for a jack/jill-of-all-trades type with a passion for plants, and in particular hydroponic vegetable production.

Preferred skills include an aptitude for numbers, data tracking, and recording, as well as some practical knowledge for fixing mechanical and electrical issues.

Basic computer skills and the ability to lift 50 pounds and work comfortably in a variety of temperatures throughout the year is a must.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
