We are a private, Indigenous-led nonprofit organization and eco-village community located near Rockford, Alabama. Our work focuses on growing a healthy regenerative community of both human and non-human life.

Our farm supports the community through the cultivation of organic vegetable crops and stewardship of Bison and endangered livestock breeds such as American Guinea Hogs, San Clemente Island Goats, and heritage chicken breeds. Farming here is not solely about production; rather, it is part of a broader commitment to cultural and linguistic continuity, food sovereignty, ecological restoration, and responsible relationships with the land and animals.

We are more a private community than a public-facing farm. Employees must respect the privacy of community members and refrain from sharing photographs, stories, cultural information, or details about the property without authorization.

Our community has its own Indigenous language. Applicants are not required to speak the language, but they must respect its use, understand its cultural importance, and be willing to work in an Indigenous-led environment with humility and consideration.

Job description

We’re seeking a regenerative farmer to improve soil health and grow vegetables on two acres, plus manage several greenhouses.

The role supports day-to-day operations and long-term development of the gardens and livestock program through hands-on crop production, animal care, land maintenance, equipment operation, and general farm projects. You’ll work with community leadership, coworkers, residents, volunteers, and occasional contractors/specialists.

This job requires reliability, initiative, adaptability, and respect for Indigenous cultural values and community protocols. Ideal candidates are eager to learn, work independently and as part of a team, and can handle year-round physical outdoor work; experience is helpful but not required.

Primary Responsibilities

• Vegetable crop production & soil health: Improve soil; follow organic standards; seed/transplant; irrigate; weed; mulch; mow; harvest; monitor for pests/disease/nutrient issues; maintain compost; save/store seed; support erosion control and regenerative land work.
• Livestock care: Daily care for bison and heritage breeds; feed/water and rotate paddocks per community guidance; inspect animals and report injuries/illness/behavior changes; maintain shelters, manure systems, fencing/gates, and water.
• Equipment & general farm operations: Use approved tractors/vehicles/mowers/trailers/hand tools after training; perform basic inspections; report maintenance/safety concerns; clean and store tools/supplies; occasional off-site supply runs when authorized; support seasonal projects and emergencies.
• Training & development: Hands-on learning in regenerative agriculture, Indigenous land stewardship, livestock handling, irrigation, planning/record-keeping, and safety. Ask questions, accept feedback, and grow independence over time.

Required Qualifications

• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow procedures and feedback.
• Works well independently and with a team; communicates concerns clearly.
• Comfortable with year-round outdoor work in varying conditions and around livestock/manure/insects/dust.
• Physically able to do repetitive work and lift/carry 50 lbs; able to stand/walk/bend/kneel/reach for extended periods.
• Strong safety awareness (personal, animal, equipment, workplace).
• Respect for Indigenous leadership, culture, language, land, and community protocols; commitment to community privacy.
• A valid driver's license is required in order to operate company vehicles. We are seeking a safe driver with no accidents or collisions on their driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regenerative/organic farming, vegetable production, ranching/livestock care, landscaping, conservation, or related work.
• Equipment experience (tractor, trailer, mower) and/or skills in fencing, irrigation, composting, basic repairs, carpentry, or maintenance.
• Interest in Indigenous agriculture, ecological restoration, and community-based food systems.

• This role is within a living Indigenous community (not a public-facing farm). Employment does not grant access to all community activities or cultural knowledge.

The successful candidate must:

• Respect Indigenous leadership, values, ceremonies, language use, and boundaries.
• Protect community privacy; no photographing/recording or sharing stories/details about people, property, or operations without explicit authorization.
• Maintain a drug- and alcohol-free workplace/community environment.

Work Schedule and Compensation

• Position type: Full-time; seasonal or year-round depending on organizational needs.
• Typical schedule: ~40 hours/week; one guaranteed day off. Additional hours may be needed during planting/harvest, emergencies, or other peak periods.
• Availability: Early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required to meet crop and livestock needs.
• Compensation: $16.50–$26.00/hour (based on experience and qualifications).
• Location: Rockford, Alabama area.
• Housing: Provided.
