Company description
Blue Hill at Stone Barns is regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative places to eat, cook, learn and explore, garnering widespread attention and accolades, including the James Beard award in 2015 for the Most Outstanding Restaurant in the US, and ranking among the World's 50 Best List.
Blue Hill at Stone Barns consistently attracts loyal, dedicated and curious employees. Please be one of them. As a member of our team, engage in unique learning experiences and be a part of a community that's pushing the boundaries of 'farm-to-table' dining.
Blue Hill at Stone Barns is looking for great people with passion.
We are a small family run company that began with Blue Hill Farm. Today we are two restaurants, a cafe, a catering business, and a marketplace. Chef Dan Barber and co-owners David and Laureen Barber, have cultivated a cutting edge farm-to-table dining experience that is actually a table in the middle of an 80 acre working farm. We are 30 miles from midtown Manhattan and yet it looks and feels like the rolling hills of Vermont. Come join us!

Job Details
2 Michelin-starred restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns, non–profit partner Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture, and Rhizome, a new food and agriculture R&D company, work together on a shared campus to build a more regional, ecological and delicious future of food.
About The Role:
Blue Hill at Stone Barns is seeking an exceptionally capable, motivated and resourceful person to join Blue Hill’s Special Projects team and provide executive support to Chef Dan Barber.
The Special Projects team works across Blue Hill, Stone Barns Center and Rhizome on food systems research, educational programs, partnerships, communications, fundraising and other projects that do not fit neatly within a single department.
This is a high-trust, high-variety role for someone who likes moving between ideas and execution.
About You:
- Resourceful: You figure things out, especially when there is no obvious playbook, and can problem solve on the fly.
- Strong communicator: You can absorb complicated subjects, identify key points, and communicate complex information clearly through writing and conversation.
- Proactive: You know what needs to happen next and take the initiative to handle upcoming challenges.
- Extremely Organized: You can manage many moving pieces without losing track of details.
- Fast and Discerning: You can effectively manage your time, knowing when to give a task 5 minutes vs. 5 hours.
- Open-minded and Flexible: You can shift between routine tasks and more substantial projects with poise and grace. Shifting priorities and changing plans do not derail you.
- Intellectually Curious: You are genuinely interested in food and agriculture and eager to learn about all facets of the Blue Hill ecosystem.
We’re looking for an exceptional generalist: someone who can research and write, organize and execute, and move easily between high-level thinking and practical details. We care less about checking every box than about judgment, thoroughness, quick learning, initiative and follow-through; for the right person, the role can evolve around their strengths and interests.
Tasks May Include:
- Conduct research across food, agriculture, science, policy, business and culture, and turn it into concise briefings and recommendations.
- Help prepare Chef Dan for meetings, interviews, presentations, and speaking engagements.
- Draft and edit presentations, social media, educational materials and other communications.
- Manage logistics, travel, priorities and follow-through.
- Support research initiatives, educational programs, donor and board relationships, partnerships, events and visits.
- Work across teams to keep complex projects moving and improve the systems behind them.
- Step into important work that does not have an obvious owner.
- Performing all other job-related duties as needed and assigned.
The Details:
This role offers unusual visibility across Blue Hill, Stone Barns Center and Rhizome, with broad exposure to teams and senior leadership and increasing ownership over time.
- Compensation: Salary Range $75k - $85k
- Access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401K, and paid time off, as well as staff dining and education reimbursement programs.
- Location & Hours: Hybrid Schedule, in-person three days each week at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, NY (~1 hr drive from NYC), and two days remote. Shifts involve working evenings and weekends.
Blue Hill is committed to equity and inclusion throughout every aspect of our work and team. We are an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourage BIPOC and/or gender minority candidates to apply.
