Company description
Cantinery makes food for gathering.
We handle the whole spread — bold, elevated bites, considered tablescapes, and the vendors that pull a party together — so you can focus on the only thing that actually matters: your guests. Ingredients you feel good about, flavors people ask you for the recipe of (we'll never tell), and a hands-off experience that asks nothing of you except the guest list.
We specialize in seasonal grazing boards, passed canapés, hearty mains, and desserts for private clients, plus full-service coordination, from tablescaping to vendor sourcing, so you're not juggling five different people to pull off one dinner. For brands and retailers, we offer culinary design and activation services, including menu design, event production, and onsite support.
We are a young, female-founded boutique looking to expand our team by bringing in creative, detail-oriented, and people-focused chefs to help us continue to grow our business.
Job description
We're looking for a skilled Prep Cook to join our Brooklyn kitchen team, helping us turn out beautiful, thoughtfully prepared food for the events we cater. If you take pride in clean knife cuts, an organized station, and food that looks as good as it tastes, we'd love to meet you.
This is a freelance, shift-based role — a great fit if you want steady daytime hours without a full-time commitment, or if you're building experience toward a bigger kitchen career.
What You'll Do
- Prep ingredients and dishes for upcoming events, following our recipes and standards
- Wash, chop, and portion vegetables, meat, and other ingredients with care and precision
- Follow safe food handling practices at every step, from storage to plating
- Wash, rinse, and sanitize knives, tools, and equipment after use
- Keep your station clean, organized, and ready for whatever's next
Schedule
- Weekday mornings, with occasional weekend morning shifts
- Freelance, approximately 4 hours per shift
- Based at our kitchen in Brooklyn
What We're Looking For
- At least 1 year of experience in a professional kitchen
- Confident knife skills and comfortable with ovens, fryers, and standard kitchen equipment
- Able to follow recipes closely, while knowing how to adjust seasoning by taste
- Understands food safety fundamentals — labeling, dating, and storing food properly
- Keeps a clean, organized workstation as second nature
- Strong attention to detail and genuine care about presentation — you want your dishes to look beautiful, not just correct
- Comfortable in a flexible, fast-moving environment where the menu and pace can shift
- Able to stand for the full shift and handle heavier equipment like food processors and stand mixers
- Food Handler's Certification is a plus, but not required — we're happy to support you in getting one
Why You'll Like It Here
- Daytime hours that won't eat into your evenings or weekends
- A kitchen that values craft, consistency, and doing things right
- A team that's easy to work with and genuinely enjoys the food it makes
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
