We are deeply committed to sustainable agriculture, soil stewardship, and expanding local food production year-round. Our produce serves the regional community through the Santa Fe Farmers Market, local natural food stores, food hubs, and direct-to-consumer CSA programs.

Our fields are irrigated using a traditional, 300-year-old acequia (community irrigation ditch) system alongside modern drip irrigation. Farming in Northern New Mexico presents a unique and dynamic environment: high altitude, an extreme climate, highly alkaline soils, and intense high-desert sunlight. Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and independent Farm Manager to oversee all daily agricultural and operational activities at Green Tractor Farm. Reporting directly to the farm owner, the Farm Manager operates with a high degree of autonomy to lead our field crew, direct crop production from seed to sales, manage distribution channels, and maintain farm infrastructure.

The ideal candidate blends hands-on agricultural expertise and mechanical skill with strong supervisory and administrative capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Crew Supervision

Direct, train, and mentor a core team, including a Wash/Pack Manager, Greenhouse Lead, Flower Manager, Market Manager, and 2–3 field crew members.
Organize daily work schedules, delegate task lists efficiently, and maintain a positive, collaborative, and safe work environment.
Lead by example in the field, setting production pace and quality control standards.

Crop Production

Oversee all phases of diversified crop production, including propagation, field preparation, planting, weed management, pest and disease control, harvest, and post-harvest handling.
Maintain adherence to USDA Certified Organic standards and thorough record keeping for organic certification compliance.
Manage water delivery using both traditional acequia surface irrigation and drip systems.

Infrastructure, Equipment & Systems

Safely operate tractors, implements and a variety of power and hand tools.
Perform routine equipment maintenance, basic farm infrastructure repairs, and troubleshooting.
Identify operational bottlenecks and assist in designing layout or system upgrades (e.g., wash/pack flow, greenhouse automation, irrigation systems).

Administration, Sales & Distribution

Maintain farm records and harvest logs.
Assist with budgeting, inventory oversight, and purchasing of farm supplies.
Oversee sales order fulfillment from retail to wholesale and CSA.

Schedule & Working Conditions

This is a full-time, year-round position subject to seasonal hours:

Peak Season (May – October): ~50 hours/week, 6 days per week.
Off-Peak Season (November – April): ~30–40 hours/week, 4–5 days per week.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions (extreme high-desert heat, cold morning temperatures, intense sun, and wind), lift up to 50 lbs regularly, and perform physically demanding manual labor as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a leadership or managerial role on a commercial market farm.
Machinery & Tools: Proficiency in operating farm tractors, implements, and standard shop/hand tools safely and effectively.
Mechanical Skill: Practical, hands-on mechanical ability to perform minor maintenance, repairs, and system troubleshooting.
Leadership & Autonomy: High level of self-direction, strong decision-making skills, stress management abilities, and clear communication.
Commitment: A minimum 1–2 year commitment is required; long-term applicants looking to establish themselves in the region for multiple years are strongly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Wage: $25.00/hour
Housing: On-farm housing is provided as part of the position package.
Paid Leave: Up to 8 days of paid sick leave per year.
Farm Produce: Access to organic farm produce for personal consumption
