Veggies to Table is a nonprofit grow-to-donate organic diversified vegetable and flower farm. Everything we grow we donate to those in need of food and joy in our community. We partner with 35+ local pantries, schools, summer lunch, and educational programs to provide nutrient dense produce to our community members who are experiencing hunger and needing joy. We work to nourish people through the produce we grow as well as the community we have built. We have welcomed hundreds of volunteers to the farm working to help end hunger and create deep community connections on the farm and beyond.

Job description
Veggies to Table seeks an experienced and passionate Assistant Farm Manager to join our team and work closely with our Farm Manager, Flower Manager and farm crew, helping to manage the many volunteers of all ages who assist us in our work. This is a full-time, year-round position that combines hands-on farm work with the administrative responsibilities essential to keeping our productive, organized, and welcoming non-profit farm running smoothly.
Our Ideal Candidate will Have:
3+ seasons of organic farming experience, at least one year as a crew leader
At least one year of no-till farming experience
Knowledge of farming in New England ideally in Zones 5b-6a
A kind, firm, and patient way of teaching skills, techniques, and systems centered on empowering beginning farmers and volunteers
Knowledge of vegetable and herb production from seed to table
Knowledge of cut flower production
Experience in a propagation greenhouse, including seeding, potting up, etc.
Experience with farm equipment including Jang seeder, BCS, broadfork, etc.
Experience with operating and troubleshooting irrigation
An understanding of soil health, organic pest control, succession planting, and related organic growing practices
Experience and desire to maintain detailed farm records
Strong detail-oriented organizational skills
Desire to keep a clean and tidy farm
Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather, under potentially strenuous conditions — heat, rain, sun, wind, and cold—preparedness and a positive attitude are essential for success
Experience working with WWOOFers is a plus!
Equally comfortable with both physical, hands-on work and administrative responsibilities
Timely email and/or phone communication
Experience with Volunteer sign-up platforms (we use Bloomerang Volunteer)
Knowledge of Tend or a willingness to learn
Desire to communicate and receive feedback openly and freely with other team members
Comfortable with having photos taken of you around the farm for the purpose of sharing our mission with our community and donors
A love of building community and relationships with folks of all ages
Preference given to candidates with the above experience
In this position you will:
Manage the day-to-day (moment to moment) operation of the farm alongside the Farm Manager and Flower Manager and be attuned to the needs of both the crops and crew
Take initiative and make day-to-day farm decisions when needed, helping ensure that work stays organized, efficient, and on schedule.
Help to develop and execute crop plan
Work alongside the Farm Manager and team to build soil health using soil tests, cover crops, and organic amendments
Assist in the development and implementation of best practices for diversified vegetable, flower, herb, and fruit cultivation
Operate a BCS with various attachments
Coordinate with various food pantries and partner organizations on distribution
Work closely with Farm Manager to organize and manage WWOOFers, local volunteers, students, and interns and provide support and instruction when relevant
Teach volunteers about proper planting techniques, efficient harvesting methods, soil health, and organic pest control
Serve as a liaison between local volunteers, interns, WWOOFers/Workaways, Farm Staff, and Executive Director/Property Owners
Wwoofers: Perform onboarding duties including communication prior to arrival, scheduling, expectations, living arrangements and life on the farm
Manage our volunteer shift sign-up portal, including posting shifts, sending reminders, and following up with volunteers about logging hours
Handle additional administrative responsibilities related to WWOOFers and volunteers, including calling references and coordinating arrivals/departures
Keep accurate and up-to-date records both on and off the farm
More Details:
This position is full-time and year-round
Salary between $45,000-$50,000 a year
This position will be supported by a Farm Manager and Flower Manager, along with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and administrative team. Additionally, we have many local volunteers, WWOOFers, and interns working on the farm

Winter work will include continuing to manage the administrative duties assigned to this role including managing the volunteer portal and working with team to communicate with volunteers and WWOOFers
Winter work may include, but not be limited to SOP writing and maintaining, crop planning, ordering, hiring, developing educational activities on the farm, collaborating with our local food security partners, developing and leading workshops, speaking opportunities, writing or collaborating on grants, tabling, and helping with our annual Dahlia Tuber Sale.
As an employee of our non-profit farm our Assistant Farm Manager may be asked to assist in other activities including farm tours, tabling and pop-ups, educational programming and support, and seasonal farm events
