Chef and mom Isabel Gunther developed a passion for food and cooking from her own mother, a Cordon Bleu trained chef and food anthropologist. Isabel has lived and traveled all over the world, observing how other cultures introduce their children to food and help them develop healthy eating habits. Armed with this knowledge and faced with the challenge of feeding her own son, Isabel started LiTTLE GREEN GOURMETS.

We are a commissary-style kitchen cooking healthy, homemade meals for school-aged children all over NYC and beyond. Our meals are delivered fresh to the schools each day and prepared with love using carefully sourced ingredients out of our East Harlem kitchen.

Job description

We are looking for a baker to help us make our homemade breads and cookies at our commissary kitchen. If interested, the baker can help create healthy new recipes to add to our kids' menu!

Hours are flexible, we operate from 5 AM to 10 PM Sunday through Friday. The role can be part-time or full-time depending on what works for the person's schedule. Please note, full-time bakers will be asked to help with other kitchen projects within their skillset, such as recipe weighing or food prep.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Bake in large quantities
• Accurately weigh and prep recipes for large scale production
• Operate large industrial cooking equipment
• Large batches of cookies, breads, and treats
• Assist with any necessary tasks needed to get the job done!
• Solve any problems that arise under pressure

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have prior baking experience
• Prior experience dealing with allergens
• Additional cooking experience a plus
• Commissary or Large Volume Catering baking and/or cooking strongly preferred
• Experience in a setting where the menu changes on a daily basis
• Ability to read and follow recipes accurately
• Good food safety practices, NYC food handlers license a plus
• Ability to speak Spanish and English a plus
• Organized and able to multitask
• Reliable, function well within a team and work calmly and efficiently in a fast moving environment.
• Quality minded with great attention to detail
• Experience with organic and local ingredients a plus
• Knowledge of allergens and safe handling a plus
• Able to work variable hours, including occasional holidays
• Work authorization in USA

Compensation

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $20.00 - $24.00
