The IPM Institute is an independent non-profit formed in 1998 to improve sustainability in agriculture and communities.
We have over 20 years of experience in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and reducing pesticide use and risks. Anticipating a growing demand for sustainability programs that go beyond a focus on IPM, our focus expanded over the years to encompass a broad range of agricultural sustainability issues.
Our work grew to include partnerships and projects with food and agricultural companies along the supply chain, from growers to packers and processors to retailers. For instance, Partnership for Ag Resource Management was formed in 2010, focused on our work with ag retailers, and Sustainable Food Group was formed in 2014 to focus specifically on developing and implementing programs to advance sustainability in food and agriculture.
Our work includes a range of projects to increase practices that improve working conditions, reduce greenhouse gases, improve air quality, water quality and soil health and reduce risks to health and the environment from pesticide and nutrient use in agriculture and communities.
Job description
Do you have a passion for sustainable agriculture and supply chain sustainability? Are you
interested in helping companies set and achieve their sustainability goals while working for a dynamic non-profit organization? We are seeking a full-time coordinator to support projects of IPM Institute’s Sustainable Food Group, a non-profit organization focused on helping companies in the food and agriculture sector create high-impact outcomes for the environment, people and their business.
The individual in this position will work with the project team, project partners, clients and other stakeholders to develop, implement, manage, maintain and evaluate initiatives that help advance sustainable agriculture.
Responsibilities
1. Support the development and pilots of a new system to make pesticide risk transparent and managed across supply chains, supported by grower- and buyer- facing dashboards that translate pesticide risk data into practical, intuitive, standardized metrics for farm management and sustainable sourcing decisions.
2. Coordinate virtual and in-person meetings and focus groups with stakeholders to solicit feedback on the pesticide risk system.
3. Support quantitative and qualitative analyses including data aggregation, analysis and interpretation of pesticide use and risk data and other farm-level sustainability metrics.
4. Support external communication across project partners and participants to support iterative design, data collection and platform testing in support of building and implementing a new pesticide risk transparency system.
5. Support research and development of food company sustainability programs, strategies and policies.
6. Support implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of sustainable agriculture programs, goals and initiatives for food company supply chains, adaptively managing programs to achieve strategic goals and objectives.
7. Contribute to the production and presentation of reports and recommendations for food company clients and project partners.
8. Contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent data analysis and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including high level of comfort in Excel
- Experience, knowledge and demonstrated interest in sustainable agriculture
Preferred qualifications include:
- At least two years’ experience in a related field
- Project coordination or management experience
- Experience or familiarity with agricultural production and conservation practices including pesticide use
- Experience or familiarity with certification programs
We are seeking a candidate to work out of our Madison, WI office, located on the near east side. We offer a flexible schedule with potential for some remote work. Starting at $19.00 to $20.00 per hour, with excellent opportunities for professional growth and long-term advancement. Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
