Company description
Hamlet is an independent restaurant and bar in the historic hamlet of Rensselaerville, New York, about 30 miles southwest of Albany.
Our kitchen is centered around thoughtful, seasonal cooking, with a strong emphasis on ingredients from local farms, growers, and producers. The menu changes with the seasons and reflects what is available around us, balancing serious cooking with a straightforward and generous approach to hospitality.
Our beverage program follows the same philosophy, with a focused wine list highlighting small and independent producers, classic and house cocktails, and a considered selection of beer, cider, and spirits.
We are building a restaurant that feels genuinely connected to Rensselaerville and the surrounding region. We are a small, hands-on team looking for people who care about their craft, take hospitality seriously, and want to work in a restaurant with high standards without unnecessary formality.
Job description
Hamlet is looking for a cook to join our kitchen team in Rensselaerville, New York.
We are a small, independent restaurant focused on seasonal cooking and ingredients from local farms, growers, and producers. Our menu changes regularly and is built around thoughtful sourcing, strong technique, and simple, well-executed food.
This is a hands-on position in a small kitchen. Cooks are involved in prep and service and are expected to take ownership of their station, work cleanly and efficiently, and contribute to a kitchen built around consistency, organization, and respect for ingredients.
Responsibilities include preparing and executing dishes according to our standards, setting up and maintaining a clean and organized station, receiving and properly storing ingredients, following food safety and sanitation practices, minimizing waste, and working closely with the chef and the rest of the kitchen team during prep and service.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, curious, organized, and comfortable working as part of a small team. Professional kitchen experience is preferred, but attitude, work ethic, and a willingness to learn matter just as much. An interest in seasonal cooking, local agriculture, and developing your skills is a plus.
Hamlet is open for dinner Thursday through Sunday. Scheduling will include evenings and weekends.
We want to build a kitchen where people can do serious work without unnecessary ego or formality. If you care about cooking, ingredients, and being part of a small restaurant that is still growing and developing, we would like to hear from you.
