Job description
Greene Grape Provisions seeks a manager to oversee its abundant produce department. As a neighborhood grocery store committed to providing our community with the highest quality groceries, we go to great lengths to maximize the amount of produce from local or regional farms with sustainable practices. We pride ourselves in the relationships we have formed with some of the best farmers in the region, and the satisfaction of our loyal and wonderful customers. We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented person to manage our talented staff and source the most impressive local produce available.
Responsibilities include:
- Working closely with small farmers and distributors of local farms
- Minimizing waste by keeping orders accurate, effectively caring for the product, and working with our chef to collaborate on purchasing and produce usage
- Maintaining appropriate margins to reach department sales goals
- Managing produce staff (includes assigning tasks, training, scheduling, representing them in store decisions)
- Working with our sign team to merchandise and effectively promote products
Qualifications:
- Genuine love of vegetables and fruit
- Comprehensive knowledge of sustainable agriculture, including working knowledge of farm practices, regional seasonality, heirloom and specialty produce varieties
- Exemplary communication skills
- Commitment to customer service
- At least 2 years management experience
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Experience working in a grocery store, farmer’s market and/or on a farm is a plus
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
