Company description
Nourse Farm has been a family-owned and operated agricultural enterprise since 1722, making it one of the oldest continuously operating family businesses in the United States — now in its 303rd year of farming. Encompassing 25 acres of productive land on a 140 acre plot in Westborough MA, the farm sits at the intersection of a centuries-old agricultural tradition and a thriving modern farm business serving the greater Boston Metro West region.
Today, Nourse Farm is a multi-faceted operation anchored by a vibrant farm store, a busy Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, popular Pick Your Own (PYO) activities, a commercial kitchen producing jams, pies, and baked goods, and a full calendar of community events. The farm's 2026 season is tracking toward strong year-over-year growth in both the CSA membership and retail store traffic.
The farm is operated by Nourse Family Farm, LLC and is protected under an Agricultural Preservation Restriction (APR) held jointly by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Town of Westborough, ensuring this land remains in agricultural use in perpetuity. The farm enjoys deep community roots, an active social media following (@noursefarm on Instagram), and a loyal customer base that has grown significantly in recent years.
Job description
Nourse Farm is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurially minded Produce Farmer to take over management of the farm's field and orchard operations. This is a rare chance to step into the production role of one of New England's most storied farm operations — one with an established customer base, proven sales channels, strong community support, and infrastructure already in place.
The current grower, who has farmed this land for more than fifty years, is transitioning toward retirement. The incoming farmer will have the opportunity to learn from that decades-long knowledge base while taking full ownership of growing decisions, crop planning, and field operations. The Nourse family intends to support a smooth multi-season transition.
This position is ideal for a Produce Farmer who is ready to manage a diverse, high-profile operation collaboratively with the Farm Manager and Nourse Family Farm LLC — someone with the agronomic expertise to manage a diverse set of fruit and vegetable crops, the organizational skills to plan ahead and communicate proactively, and the people skills to collaborate with a farm store team that serves thousands of customers each season.
Key Responsibilities:
The Produce Farmer will be responsible to oversee and execute all aspects of crop planning & management, perennial crop stewardship, soil nutrient management, maintenance of farming infrastructure and equipment, management of a seasonal farm crew of between 4-6 individuals, and daily coordination with the farm store and CSA staff.
We seek a highly motivated person with the following skillsets:
Required Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience managing commercial berry, vegetable, or small fruit production
• Demonstrated experience with perennial berry crops — strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries strongly preferred
• Proficiency operating tractors and farm equipment (planting, spraying, cultivation attachments)
• Experience managing seasonal farm crew, including hiring, training, and scheduling
• Strong planning and organizational skills; ability to think ahead and communicate proactively with the farm team
• Ability to work independently and make sound agronomic decisions without daily supervision
• Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions throughout the growing season
• Drivers License required to fulfill job-duties
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with direct-market farm operations (CSA, PYO, farm stand, or farmers market)
• Pesticide/spraying license
• Computer and basic bookkeeping skills
• Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) and sustainable growing practices
• Experience with greenhouse propagation and seedling production
• Associates or Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
