We are a worker-owned cooperative bakery and pizzeria in the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco. We provide quality, affordable foods and create a democratic, supportive workspace. While providing workers with a sustainable living and ongoing skill development; we model and support alternative economies and cooperative ownership. All workers are member-owners, making decisions collectively to move the business forward. We value sustainable work schedules and supporting ourselves with full benefits and family leave policies. We specialize in breakfast pastries, laminated doughs, sourdough bread, and pizza. We are a bakery, but we are also a community, planning and working for the good of each other and our customers and local organizations.

Job description

Each worker at the bakery works as part of a bigger team. A typical day might start with the morning crew at 4 am, or the afternoon crew at 12 pm. The roles at the bakery are varied, but every shift includes front of house and interacting with our customers. Most typically, when you come to work you are part of a crew of 3 or 4 people, working together to finish what's needed for that day. We roll sourdough, spin pizza, mix scones, fill pies, bake cookies, make sauces, and so much more. We work hard, clean as we go, and value camaraderie and work/life balance. In addition to food production work, every member is part of one or more committees that handle the behind-the-scenes essential work that keeps a business going. Marketing, Finance, Personnel, Evaluation are examples of committees that operate in our space. We attend whole group meetings once a month to talk through and democratically vote on issues and decisions that affect the group and our community.

New workers complete a candidacy period of six months during which they receive training for their shifts, followed by a membership vote.

Compensation currently exceeds $30 / hr plus tips, benefits, and yearly profit sharing once you become a member.
