Company description

We started baking bread in 2009 in the wood oven at Roman's. After dinner service, we would make a fire. Early in the morning, our baker Austin Hall would come in, rake out the coals and bake bread for the day.

This bread became a part of Roman’s at every service and staff meal. Soon the chefs at Marlow & Sons and Diner wanted to bring the same quality and integrity to the bread they served.

We expanded bread production to our own space in Greenpoint in 2012, and then in 2024, we moved our whole operation into the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where we now bake daily to supply the bread served at all of our restaurants and many others around the city. You can also purchase loaves to take home at Marlow & Daughters and Roman’s, as well as at any of our 13 weekly Greenmarkets.

In 2023, we were recognized as a semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s inaugural “Outstanding Bakery” award.

We are hiring a part-time market vendor to join our team.

The primary function of this position is to sell our product at various Greenmarkets throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. As a part of our Greenmarket team, you will be the face of our company and lead our effort to get local shoppers excited about great bread. This position will require you to work weekends and holidays.

Successful candidates will:

• Embrace early mornings with start times generally at 6 or 7 AM
• Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Have exceptional interpersonal communication skills with strong multitasking abilities
• Be able to repetitively lift 50 pounds in and out of a van
• Be reliable, focused, organized, communicative, and curious
• Have a receptive and charitable attitude toward constructive feedback
• Be interested in working collaboratively towards meeting the goals of the team and the business

While performing the duties of the job, a Market Vendor is regularly required to stand and walk; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. They must regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
