Company description
Blackwater Pastures is a family-owned regenerative cattle farm in South Georgia raising cattle on pasture and producing high-quality beef for families throughout Georgia.
Our approach begins with the land. We use rotational grazing, seasonal forage, and thoughtful herd management to build healthier soil, improve pasture productivity, and create a farming system that works with the natural resources around us. We believe good food starts with responsible stewardship, healthy animals, and a direct connection between the people raising food and the people eating it.
We sell our beef directly through farmers markets, Blackwater Beef Shares, online ordering, and local pickup. Atlanta has become an especially important part of our business, where we have built a strong community of repeat customers through neighborhood farmers markets and direct relationships.
Blackwater is a small, hands-on business, so the people who work with us have a meaningful impact on how the company operates and grows. We value reliability, initiative, organization, curiosity, good communication, and people who take ownership of their responsibilities. We want team members who notice opportunities, solve problems, build relationships with customers, and bring ideas forward rather than simply waiting for instructions.
We are currently expanding our Atlanta operations and building the systems, logistics, and team needed to support that growth. For someone interested in regenerative agriculture, local food systems, direct-to-consumer business, farmers markets, logistics, or small-business operations, Blackwater offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience across many parts of a working farm and food business.
Our goal is to build a business that supports the land, the animals we raise, the people who work with us, and the communities that choose to buy their food directly from a farm they know.
Job description
Blackwater Pastures is hiring a part-time Atlanta Market Operations Lead to take ownership of operating and improving our Atlanta farmers market program.
This is a part-time position with real operational responsibility, not a casual weekend market job. You will be responsible for reliably operating our Atlanta weekend markets, managing inventory and logistics, caring for a company-provided market van, helping grow sales, and building strong relationships with our customers.
You are not just showing up to work a market. You are responsible for making sure it happens correctly from start to finish.
We are looking for someone who is highly reliable, organized, self-managing, and comfortable taking initiative without constant direction.
Responsibilities
Operate approximately two Atlanta farmers markets each weekend, currently Saturday and Sunday
Set up and break down the full market booth, including tent, signage, tables, and product display
Provide knowledgeable, friendly customer service and build relationships with repeat customers
Help grow sales through product knowledge, merchandising, thoughtful recommendations, and strong execution
Introduce appropriate customers to our Blackwater Beef Share program
Manage and organize market inventory and identify restocking needs
Track product movement, customer requests, and sales opportunities
Operate Shopify POS and our barcode/catch-weight inventory system accurately
Drive and responsibly care for a company-provided Ford Transit
Store the van at your residence and keep the onboard freezer plugged in and secure
Make approximately two restocking trips per month to our South Georgia farm
Participate in a one-hour Monday sales and operations meeting and come prepared to discuss sales, inventory, customer feedback, and opportunities for improvement
Identify problems proactively and follow through without needing routine reminders
Schedule
The winter schedule averages approximately 15–16 hours per week across the month:
Saturday market: approximately 5 hours
Sunday market: approximately 5 hours
Monday sales and operations meeting: approximately 1 hour
Two South Georgia restocking trips per month: approximately 10 hours each
Hours and responsibilities may increase as our Atlanta market schedule expands in 2027.
Compensation
$25/hour
+ $200/month Reliability & Execution Bonus
+ $100/month Vehicle Responsibility Stipend
7.5% commission on weekly commissionable market sales above $3,000
$25 bonus for each new Blackwater Beef Share customer attributable to your market efforts who places a reservation deposit
Company-provided Ford Transit
Expected winter compensation averages approximately $450–$500 per week at the current schedule and recent market sales, with additional upside through sales commission and Beef Share conversion bonuses.
Reliability Is Non-Negotiable
Reliability is the most important requirement for this position.
Farmers markets cannot simply be opened later, moved to another day, or casually missed. We need someone whose schedule, transportation, communication, and personal organization allow them to consistently fulfill their commitments.
If that expectation is a stretch, this role will not be a good fit.
Requirements
Exceptional reliability and punctuality
Consistent Saturday and Sunday availability
Ability to meet early morning market start times
Ability to store a Ford Transit at your residence
Valid driver’s license
Comfortable driving a cargo van
Willingness to make two monthly trips to our South Georgia farm
Ability to lift and move approximately 40 lbs regularly
Strong organization and communication skills
Comfortable working independently and actively selling to customers
Willingness to learn our products, farming practices, and Beef Share program
Experience with farmers markets, retail, food service, inventory, logistics, Shopify POS, or local food systems is helpful but not required.
The right attitude, reliability, and sense of responsibility matter more to us than having a perfect résumé.
Blackwater is actively expanding its Atlanta presence. For the right person, this role has the potential to grow into additional markets, increased hours, staff coordination, logistics leadership, and greater responsibility within our Atlanta operation.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
