Job description
Bouley is seeking an organized, detail-oriented professional with restaurant, TV/production, or food magazine cooking experience. As Recipe Tester and Developer, you will play a key role as part of the Bouley team in preserving and enhancing quality and testing culinary flavor combinations to provide a unique and exemplary experience for our guests.
Specifically, you will:
- Perfect recipes and document precise directions with a focus on research, development, and execution of successful recipes that can be reproduced consistently
- Be comfortable and thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
- Work directly with Chef David Bouley to cultivate a variety of flavor experiences
- Provide instruction for Test Kitchen guests for technical and nutritional education
- Support recipe development for Bouley Restaurant, Bouley Test Kitchen classes, and private events
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Passion for food and a natural curiosity for how ingredients elevate or ruin a dish
- Ability to develop and refine dishes, with a focus on nutrition and presentation
- Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
- Ability to craft and effectively communicate a “story” for the food and flavor creations at Bouley
- High energy, be entertaining, and have the ability to answer challenging questions while conducting demonstrations
- Ability to confidently lead demonstrations and provide interactive instruction to Test Kitchen audiences
- Excellent organization/time management, problem solving, and planning skills
- Detail-oriented and guest-focused approach
- Team-oriented, collaborative and flexible work style
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- At least 3-5 years of cooking class teaching/demonstration experience at an accredited cooking school
- BA in Food Science, Nutrition, or Culinary Arts from an Accredited Education Program preferred

Bouley Restaurant is located in Tribeca’s Duane Park. This museum-quality dining destination features 18th century beams, a wood burning stone fireplace, original oak parquet floors and provincial paintings of lush rolling hills and fields of lavender. The menu consists of David Bouley’s simple, elegant, flavorful food that embodies his culinary philosophy.
The multifunctional Bouley Test Kitchen serves as an elegant event space, an interactive classroom, and a state-of-the-art culinary laboratory. Working with food constantly offers new challenges – dietary trends come and go, ingredients evolve with the climate, and our own desire to surpass our previous accomplishments pushes us to discover new techniques. The Test Kitchen offers an arena for the Bouley team to develop and extend these advanced approaches to product selection, preparation, and presentation. One recipe can inspire 13 other sub-recipes. It’s a fast experimental pace.
As an educational center, the Bouley Test Kitchen provides a space for guests to learn from visiting chefs through classes and demonstrations. Instruction is provided for all aspects of food preparation – selecting the right ingredients, creating dishes that complement one another, and assembling a cohesive meal which can be recreated at home. As well as technique, classes focus on food education and culture. To help students become better acquainted with their cuisine, an analysis of each recipe’s nutritional components is presented. Guests also explore products that could be used for those with special dietary needs and allergies.
