Katchkie Farm is a year-round organic farming operation owned by New York City-based catering company Great Performances (GP). For the company, Katchkie Farm represents a commitment to celebrating local flavors and investing in sustainable agriculture. The Farm, which sits on 60 acres in Columbia County, NY, yielded its first harvest in 2007 and supplies fresh, organic produce to GP’s catered events and eight cafés, farmers’ markets and CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) programs in NYC. In 2011, Katchkie launched the Corporate CSA Program and has quickly become the leader in this unique developing market. Katchkie is the source and inspiration for a line of artisanal products, including Katchkie Ketchup, Thunder Pickles from Katchkie Farm, and Tomato Jam. The Farm is also home to The Sylvia Center, a non-profit organization addressing issues in children’s health through hands-on experiences with growing and cooking healthy food.
The Katchkie Farm CSA Coordinator acts as the key liaison between the farm (New York’s Hudson Valley), GP, and CSA members and affiliates. The CSA Coordinator manages all aspects of this growing program. This is a seasonal, part-time position starting in Mid-February and ending in Late-November.
Key responsibilities include:
- Handle CSA inquiries from both GP and Farm contacts
- Participate in Farm events (Spring Planting Day, Farm to Table, Fall Harvest Festival)
- Potential to work at the Rockefeller Center Greenmarket during the 6 week selling season
CSA Programs:
- Oversee weekly produce deliveries and track inventory for CSA programs:
- Work with Volunteer Core Team to set up community-based CSA programs (i.e., 92YTribeca)
- Collaborate with company representatives to establish Corporate CSA programs (i.e., NBC Universal)
- Cultivate relationships and manage communications with CSA members from all sites
- Create and publish all content for CSA newsletters (weekly during harvest season)
- Communicate feedback from CSA members to KF and GP to ensure customer satisfaction
Required Skills:
- The ideal candidate will have a unique set of skills, passions, and capabilities in representing the Katchkie Farm in New York City and growing the Katchkie Farm brand.
- Available for a full season commitment (mid-February – November)
- BA and 1-3 years work experience preferred
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, strong independent worker
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with customers, clients, and co-workers
- Sales experience (and enthusiasm) a plus, desire to expand CSA membership
- Passionate about integrating business and sustainability
- Entrepreneurial working style, excited and driven to pursue new initiatives
- Tech savvy (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, Social Media)
- Cooking skills a plus
- Flexibility with work weeks including weekends
