Job description
This is a full-time job for someone eager to work in a fast-paced restaurant setting as the all-around go-to forager, schlepper, and steward.
Job duties include:
Shopping at the Greenmarket three/four days weekly for kitchen needs (anywhere from a few bunches of greens to 150+ lbs of ingredients).
Keeping kitchen apprised of availability of local and seasonal produce at Greenmarket for menu planning.
Handling all product receiving, identifying, labelling, and storage as deliveries come in from various vendors.
Maintaining cleanliness and order throughout storage areas
Assisting kitchen with placing orders, contacting vendors, and finding alternative sources and new producers.
Running errands for restaurant purchasing as needed and requested.
Occasional lunchtime outbound food deliveries.
Occiasional treats like cleaning the grease trap and powerwashing the sidewalk.
Many other job duties and possibilities depending on strength and motivation of the individual.
Job requirements:
Must be passionate about farm-to-table sourcing and work environment.
Must appreciate that even in farm-to-table work environment, 90% of the work is schlepping, hustiing, cleaning, and sweating, just like any other kitchen job.
Must be able to lift 50+ lbs comfortably and without risk of hernia.
Must be extremely comfortable bicycling in the city with heavy loads of food on a large cargo bike.
Must be able to take direction, complete assigned tasks, and operate independently and reliably.
