L.A. Kitchen is a start-up nonprofit organization that will offer innovative programs that work to ensure neither food nor people ever go to waste. We will partner with California farmers to secure surplus fruits and vegetables that our kitchen will process to make fresh, nutritious meals tailored to the needs of our community's most vulnerable populations.
L.A. Kitchen's rigorous job training program will prepare unemployed individuals, particularly youth aging out of the foster care system and older adults exiting the prison system, for careers in the culinary industry. The meals prepared by our staff, students, and volunteers will be distributed to existing social service agencies, concentrating on programs that support our aging population.
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
The Social Media Intern will build L.A. Kitchen's online presence to strengthen relationships with current and prospective supporters. The Social Media Intern will manage and expand L.A. Kitchen's current social media initiatives, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, YouTube, and LinkedIn. The Social Media intern will also create content on L.A. Kitchen's blog, and work with the Manager of Communications/Business Development to develop online content around the opening of L.A. Kitchen's facilities and programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Increase brand awareness, driving activity on social networks and traffic to L.A. Kitchen's website

Draft engaging content for website and social media

Utilize social networks to build relationships with supporters and partners

Utilize blogging, social networking, and backlink building to raise our web presence and placement on web

Research assigned topics for the development of communication materials

Research social media trends for strategy development

Monitor L.A. Kitchen's online metrics, and provide regular reports on web activity
QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Experience using social media networks

Understanding of the internet and social media marketing best practices

This is an unpaid internship and requires 10-20 hours per week.
