Back to the Roots is looking for a dynamic marketing manager to join our award-winning startup. As Marketing Manager, you will report to the VP of Marketing (founder of World of Good and former head of sustainable commerce at eBay) and will play a key role in executing the company’s marketing and PR strategy. You will work out of our awesome loft space in downtown Oakland and will receive profit sharing, full health benefits and the opportunity to learn and grow within a well-connected, passionate and rapidly growing startup.
ABOUT BACK TO THE ROOTS Back to the Roots is an Oakland, California based company focused on making growing food personal again. The company was founded in 2009 by two UC Berkeley seniors who gave up corporate jobs to become urban mushroom farmers. The company's first product was a mushroom kit that allowed anyone to grow fresh mushrooms right out of a little brown box in just ten days. The company recently launched the AquaFarm, a self-cleaning fish tank that grows food. The AquaFarm uses fish waste to fertilize plants, and the plants in turn clean the water for the fish. THE MARKETING MANAGER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

BRAND MARKETING You will work closely with sales to strengthen our existing retail partnerships and help build new ones

Work with our designer to improve merchandising, packaging and marketing collateral

Manage seasonal campaigns in-stores and online and develop joint marketing promotions with our retail partners to grow same store sales.

Manage our email campaigns to current retail partners and sales leads.

COMMUNICATIONS We believe we have an incredible story to tell our consumers and we want you to help us articulate it and shout it from the rooftops.

Manage our consumer-facing communications and build a vibrant and engaged community on our website, email and social media platforms. Help develop the voice, tone and messaging guidelines and ensure there is consistency across all our channels

Ideate and execute marketing campaigns to drive awareness about Back to the Roots

Manage the relationship with our PR agency to secure relevant and widespread media coverage for our products, our company and our founders
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

You have excellent writing and communication skills and a knack for storytelling

You have a high degree of creativity but are also comfortable with numbers

You have a BA or BS degree (preferably in marketing, business, English, or journalism) and have a good understanding of brand and marketing strategy

You have 4-6 years of marketing related work experience, ideally with CPGYou can multi-task efficiently and work in a fluid and fast paced environment.

You have a solid understanding of Web 2.0 technology (blogs, social networks, other online media) and how best to leverage these channels in a manner that is true to our brand. Ecommerce experience is a big plus.

You are very proficient with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of photoshop and html is a plus.
