At Common Threads, we grow good people, healthy food, and strong community through hands-on, seed-to-table educational programs.
We are currently recruiting for several Food Educators.
POSITION DUTIES

Work with teachers, parents, and students at assigned school(s) and at our urban farm site to design and deliver joyful, educational food experiences.

Provide support to schools in creating and sustaining Healthy Snack Programs

Support Classroom as Cafeteria efforts through taste testing, salad bar support, educational signage and other promotional/educational materials

Advocate for the role of food as a cross-curricular teaching and learning vehicle

Work with administration, staff, parents, and students to ensure that food education, from seed to plate, becomes a sustainable and valued part of school culture

Actively collaborate with other Common Threads Food Educators to ensure that the successes at each school and in each district are shared and, as appropriate, replicated.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in education or closely related field

Extensive teaching experience, in both classroom and outdoor settings Comfort and experience with gardening and cooking

Experience and ease working with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic communities

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Commitment to information sharing with an eye to building a culture of best practices in Food Education

Reliable, creative, detail oriented, punctual, and able to prioritize multiple tasks

Strong written and spoken communication skills

Ability to meet deadlines Educational and other

HOURS/COMPENSATION
We are currently recruiting for three different types of Food Educators
-
Americorps - One of our Food Educators will be a full-time 10 1/2 month Americorps Position. This is a volunteer position with a stipend and an end of service educational award. Due to the restrictions of the Americorps program, only applicants between the ages of 18-25 may apply. Click here to begin the process.

Work-Study - if you are work-study eligible in the state of Washington, we will also be hiring several part-time Food Educators

Hourly Staff - We will also be hiring staff @ $12.50/hour. These positions will most likely be seasonal (September/October and March/June) with the possibility but not promise of work during the rest of the year.
Applicants must be available for a
minimum of one full school day per week (9am - 3pm) or two half days. Americorps applicants must be available full time September 1, 2013 through July 15, 2014
