Job description
Widely published food writer and cookbook author seeks part-time assistant to help with editing, recipe testing, web maintenance, social media, errands and paperwork. This is a perfect opportunity for an individual who does freelance food work and has a flexible schedule and/or for someone looking to break into the food world. Individual will have the opportunity to attend high-profile food events and to assist in the planning of various dinners, book talks and fundraisers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Help with research and editing of food-related articles for well-known publications.

Shop for and test recipes with precision.

Write up recipes.

Update events schedule, article database and other parts of website as needed. Web training will be provided.

Send frequent tweets and upkeep Facebook pages for author, maximizing use of social media to increase article hits, website hits and book sales.

Help author with bookkeeping, shopping, day-to-day operations, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:

Intelligence, curiosity, passion for food and history A MUST!

Some experience editing and writing preferred. Experience with social media preferred.

Flexible schedule is ideal. Exact work days and number of hours will change throughout the year. This is an ideal position for a freelancer or recent graduate.

Must make one year commitment. Two year commitment preferred.

Must be motivated, organized and self directed.

Must be located in Washington, DC by February, 2011.
DETAILS:
Pay is hourly, 8-16 hours per week. Hours will fall on the lower end over the summer months.
