What We’re Looking For:
FoodCorps seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented human resources professional who is comfortable in a fast-paced office environment. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Coordinator will be responsible for providing our 175+ AmeriCorps service members with a high caliber of human resources support. The Coordinator will manage annual service member onboarding and exiting, timekeeping and payroll processing, benefits administration, and will ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws and AmeriCorps regulations. To a lesser extent, the Coordinator will also support the HR Manager in meeting the needs of our national staff and FoodCorps fellows (junior staff who serve as statewide team leaders for our service members). This is a full-time position based in our Portland, Oregon office.

You are highly skilled at monitoring HR policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with relevant federal, state and local laws and AmeriCorps regulations. You have a sunny disposition and are able to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds with sensitivity, patience and professionalism. You are an attentive and conscientious listener and can negotiate complex HR situations with grace and a high standard of discretion.
Primary Responsibilities:

Manage and document the service member onboarding process, including the complex AmeriCorps eligibility and background check processes, processing service member offer letters and contracts, payroll set up, direct deposit enrollment, benefits processing and account set up (including Google and MyAmeriCorps Portal)

Coordinate the service member exit process in a timely and compliant fashion, including providing exit information, processing termination of benefits and archiving of Google accounts

Approve service member time sheets and process service member payroll Manage service member benefits, including health, vision, dental and employee assistance program benefits

Handle all service member HR inquiries, including proof of service letter requests, address change requests, supervisor change requests, stipend related inquiries, tax form requests, and questions about their benefits

Maintain confidential, compliant service member files, ready for federal audit

Manage the intake, analysis and filing of all mid-term and end-of-term service member performance reviews and spearhead the process for resolving ad hoc performance issues

Manage the investigation, documentation, and resolution of any issues or incidents that may arise involving service members

Process early service member exits and manage any disciplinary processes, including suspensions and terminations

Manage service member, host site, service site and state specific email listservs and forums

Oversee and support service member, host site and service site compliance with all FoodCorps and AmeriCorps rules and regulations, including conducting audits of service member files and time sheets

Oversee and support compliance with any and all applicable federal and state employment laws

Provide support for the HR Manager in regards to FoodCorps staff and fellow HR issues and inquiries
Skills of the Ideal Candidate:

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced training welcome

Two to four years of experience in human resources or a position with similar responsibilities

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Highly organized individual with a keen eye for detail

Ability to objectively and compassionately coach service members, FoodCorps staff and external parties through complex, difficult and/or emotional issues

Must show a high level of discretion with confidential and sensitive personal information

Ability to work in a fast-paced, start-up nonprofit environment

Must be project oriented and have the ability to manage highly cyclical and seasonal job duties Strength in multi-tasking, goal-setting and problem solving, often under tight deadlines

Must be self-motivated and excel in a deadline-driven environment Previous experience with AmeriCorps or understanding of AmeriCorps regulations strongly encouraged

Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google products preferred Familiarity with Salesforce and Box or other cloud based technologies strongly preferred but not required

Knowledge of the food movement, childhood obesity, nutritional education and related issues welcomed but not required
