Sterling College and the Rian Fried Center for Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems invite applications for a full-time faculty position in the Sustainable Food Systems major beginning in July 2015.

Candidates are expected to have a deep commitment to undergraduate teaching and education.

Teaching assignments will include at least three of the following core classes in the Sustainable Food Systems major – Sustainable Food Systems; Food Policy; Economics of Food Systems; Landscape, Food and Culture; Security, Sovereignty and Justice in World Food Systems; Introduction to Value-Added Food Production; and/or other courses consistent with the applicant’s expertise and the need of the program.

The Sterling College curriculum is based on experiential learning and the applicant is expected to use teaching methods that engage students in hands-on learning as well as analytical thinking. A successful applicant will be expected to participate as an active member of the sustainable agriculture and food systems instructional team, advise students, supervise students in the work program, and administrate and develop new coursework with integration of local food-based businesses. This will include serving as a liaison to our educational partners, including our Artisan Cheese Program with the Cellars at Jasper Hill, collaborations with the Vermont Food System Higher Education Consortium, and our new teaching residency with NYU’s Food Studies program.

A successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.In addition to teaching responsibilities, a successful candidate must hold an advanced degree in Food Systems or a closely related field, with a terminal degree preferred at the date of employment, and must demonstrate previous teaching experience.
