Job description
COMPANY DESCRIPTION Perfectly pure, irresistibly rich and luscious dark chocolate, crafted entirely at the point- of-origin in Peru. Kopali Chocolates contain no dairy, refined sugars, or trans fats, and are vegan and gluten-free. Certified organic and fair trade, Kopali’s chocolates are every bit as important as they are delicious. Motivated by a deep purpose and guided by a clear strategy, Kopali’s chocolate sweetness has already managed to reach, delight and inspire millions of fans while helping to support thousands of farmers who in turn care for ecosystems that support all life.
Presented in eye-catching, appealing, impulse-buy candy packaging, the Kopali look and feel combines an upscale, contemporary, sophisticated brand, with authentic commitment and connection to pure food, farmers and land, artisan production, and indigenous cultures.
We are a small entrepreneurial team at an exciting moment of growth. Our focus is on expansion/sales and maximizing impact: how many retailers and shoppers and influencers and outlets can we reach, with your help?
POSITION SUMMARYKopali Chocolates seeks an exceptional candidate for a five month full-time internship available starting immediately. Ideal for a NYC based Dec '14 recent graduate of undergraduate or graduate studies, or a mid-career changer. Must be willing and able to jump in and add meaningful value to Kopali as an entrepreneurial small chocolate company, dedicated to delighting chocolate lovers with exceptionally delicious quality, pure ingredients, and positive social and environmental impact.
Kopali's ideal candidate will take on significant responsibility for career experience and growth, with intrinsic motivation to achieve goals. The ideal candidate will also have a passion for contributing to Kopali's purpose of positive social and environmental impact. Will work directly with Kopali President to operate all aspects of the company (which in a startup like Kopali, is all about getting your hands dirty to dive in and "get stuff done", for everyone from President to Intern). Will represent the Kopali Chocolate brand to shopper and retailer customers (at special events and in stores) for brand exposure and concrete sales, and will work on operational/financial projects (with aptitude/knowledge) and supply chain projects (with interest/experience, and/or especially with Spanish fluency).
Position is unpaid: we have experienced tremendous demand for Kopali Chocolates, and our challenges meeting that demand have led to an extremely tight financial budget, so this is not due to lack of respect for intern contributions and is simply a budgetary restraint. Kopali will however provide a weekly travel stipend to defray costs, as well as complementary access to food and social impact events. We will also work with any academic institution to complete reporting and other requirements to ensure you can receive any credit you are eligible for.
RESPONSIBILITIES We work with each exceptional candidate to identify his/her specific strengths and interests, and the alignment with Kopali's various needs, to craft a plan of time spent on different functional areas, including Sales & Marketing, Operations & Finance/Accounting, Supply Chain & Product Development, Creative Design, and others. Please be as specific as possible with what you are hoping to a) learn and b) contribute, with Kopali.
REQUIREMENTS- Kopali seeks a positive, enthusiastic, confident individual who can demonstrate leadership and achievement in previous work/academic/extracurricular settings.
- We need a sharp, quick learner with a positive attitude, who is flexible, eager to learn and take feedback, and able to self-reflect and learn from mistakes.
- Kopali seeks a passionate individual with a deep sense of responsibility and commitment, who can demonstrate from past experiences s/he is a hard- working self-starter able to maintain energy and focus.
- Especially for a Sales & Marketing focus, must be personally compelling, with an exceptional ability to be persistent and persuasive, and critically must couple these inspiring communication skills with the ability and discipline to track information and follow up with potential and existing customers to ensure that their interest translates into sales and optimal representation of the Kopali Chocolates brand.
- Especially for a Finance & Accounting focus, must have extremely strong detail-orientation and organization skills, ideally with strong skills in both Excel and Quickbooks/Accounting.
- Ideal candidates have all mentioned above, and also a degree from a top-tier academic institution, relevant experience in food and beverage and/or positive impact social enterprise, experience with a small entrepreneurial organization, and demonstrated passion for food, health and wellness and making the world a better place.
