The Sweet Praxis is a soon-to-be-open bakery and café located in the Hanover Square neighborhood of Downtown Syracuse, NY.  We provide our community with a variety of sweet and savory baked goods created with the highest quality local, seasonal and organic ingredients whenever possible and we welcome guests with a variety of dietary preferences including gluten free and vegan.  We provide customers with a full line of retail bakery products, and aim to introduce breakfast and lunch items as well as increase our wholesale and private catering orders. Our bakery aims to minimize our waste stream and rely heavily on compostable and recyclable packaging. 

Job description

We are looking to hire a serious bake-minded person that enjoys team collaboration and thinking outside the box.  Ideal candidates should bring a knowledge of and respect for the regional food landscape and a passion for using high quality ingredients.  We are looking for an early morning artisan baker with experience mixing and fermenting naturally leavened breads, proficiency at hand forming a variety of types of loaves, creating a variety of pastries and desserts as well as having strong communication skills and the ability to multitask.  Shifts begin early morning, and seasonal flexibility. 5 days a week.  Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with the applicant’s previous experience.  We are a small company that is growing rapidly.  Many opportunities for growth for the right person.


  • Must be able to work in a small, team-oriented environment

  • Must have excellent organization and communication skills
  • Experience working in a production bakery
  • Must be punctual- timeliness is very important

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • A devotion to cleanliness and organization
  • Daily bread and morning pastry production including laminated doughs
  • Inventory management
  • Being a creative and enthusiastic baker
  • Lifting heavy things (up to 50 lbs)
  • Long hours on feet
  • Flexible schedule with availability to work weekends and some late nights
  • Must be able to work at least 35 hours per week
