Greenmarket supports farmers and preserves farmland for the future by providing regional, small family farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products to New Yorkers.

Job description Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Greenmarket Publicity Manager and under the general supervision of the Greenmarket Director (GD) and Assistant Director (AD), the Communications Specialist will be responsible for coordinating Greenmarket’s press and communications strategy and assisting with special events to raise funds and to highlight Greenmarket’s programs, markets and farmers.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain press contact database, generate press releases and pitch stories to news and other media outlets related to farmer products, farmer stories, market news and events
  • Write and edit public and internal newsletters and other communications
  • Promote farmer products and events by cultivating relationships with farmers, press, and food industry professionals
  • Coordinate and supervise film and photo shoots at markets
  • Oversee and update Greenmarket’s section of GrowNYC’s website and contribute content to GrowNYC’s annual report and other outreach materials
  • Guide Greenmarket staff and market managers in public communications and create strategies for social media and talking points at market
  • Liaise with all Greenmarket and GrowNYC programs and relay information to rest of staff
  • In conjunction with Greenmarket Publicity Manager, develop and execute fundraising efforts and special events
  • Develop strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends

Ideal Qualifications

  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects at once without missing deadlines
  • Solid experience and skills in crafting a marketing and communications strategy including everything from ad campaigns and media messaging to direct mail
  • Ideal candidate will have existing knowledge of our markets and producers as well a solid knowledge of and interest in issues relating to local food, sustainable agriculture, food access and sovereignty and ability to communicate these to the uninitiated
  • Existing relationships with media and partners, especially in the food world
  • Ability to follow direction, work as a team and dedicate yourself to a common mission and set of goals
  • Comfortable and experienced in public speaking to a variety of audiences 


Salary Range
Commensurate with experience

Compensation this position is : salaried, varies DOE, $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 Work visa This employer is willing to sponsor a work visa for international applicants Application instructions
