Laura launched What We Eat, LLC as a nutrition private practice and quickly discovered that her clients would rather have her prepare the types of food she recommends than to have them prescribed. What started as cooking for one or two clients “on the side” has happily turned into a growing business of private chefs. To keep up with demand and to continue to service the current client load well, we need help. We plan to continue growing What We Eat, LLC into an industry leading health-focused private chef and catering service in New York City and beyond. We also have many opportunities to foray into new and creative culinary outlets. We see each employee as a valuable addition to our business for what he or she may bring in terms of culinary or entrepreneurial skill and creativity. We look forward to hearing from you.

WE KNOW
Study after study demonstrates that our food environment is one of the most powerful determinants of our food choices. In other words, we eat what’s available. Our refrigerator and our pantry (and our kitchen at work) have an important impact on our food choices. Better options result in better choices.
Healthy options are hard to come by at restaurants–what most New Yorkers consider their “kitchens.” Unfortunately, restaurants put their bottom line before our health. They often rely on some combination of salt, sugar and fat for flavor rather than choosing the best ingredients and letting them speak for themselves.

Job description
Job: Chef and Manager
Fast growing health-focused private chef and market business seeks professionally trained chef. Candidate will start by working alongside business owner/private-chef Laura Geraty to learn the ropes at our market in Bellport, Long Island. Once candidate is familiar with our cooking style, he/she will independently manage market operations. This position offers a vast opportunity for growth and is ideal for a young chef who has a passion for cooking, interest in advancing his/her career in a nontraditional way, and desire to help grow a business with unlimited potential.
Hours: Market slated to open Memorial Day weekend, 2017, with work hours falling between 7am-7pm, Wednesday-Sunday
Candidate Requirements:
Must have an accredited culinary degree or demonstrable commensurate experience in the professional culinary industry
Truly passionate about food (especially vegetables!)
Positive attitude
Team player with good communication skills
Enjoys client interaction, friendly and professional
Hard-working and physically able to lift 40+ lbs and handle long hours on foot
Flexible (daily schedule varies and there is always the possibility of additional exciting opportunities)
Knowledge of health and safety laws in the kitchen
Entrepreneurial spirit
What to expect:
We are looking to hire for a start date of around May 1 and we are searching for a great fit so we are starting the process now! For the right candidate, we are flexible on moving up the start date. Potential new hires will first speak with Laura for an initial call and move onto a formal in-person interview. Following interview, if we feel there may be a potential fit, new hires will embark upon a two week paid “stage” in which he or she will accompany one of our team members during an average workday here in NYC. This will provide new hires with the opportunity to better understand what our company strives for. In turn, it will provide What We Eat, LLC with a better understanding of the new hire’s culinary ability.
Type of food: vegetable-focused, seasonal, bright flavors with abundant use of fresh herbs, prepared with an eye towards health. While we appreciate all eating habits, our chefs must be able to taste test all meals for quality- including dairy, grains, meat and fish.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15/hr +
