Job description
Private family farm seeking full-time, reliable, and experienced farm manager to help get our farm back up to working speed again. The farm is located in Kittrell, NC (25 minutes away from Wake Forest and 40 minutes from downtown Durham.) The farm manager role is best suited for someone with a background in farm management, construction, agricultural farming or animal husbandry who has experience with horses. You must be comfortable working alone (for now) and be consistent and independent. This role is perfect for someone who likes doing something different every day, as this role is the sole manager of the house, property and animals.
This is an intensive opportunity that requires you be skilled and adept at the basics of running and maintaining a farm. Duties include but are not limited to:
-
basic plumbing/electrical/construction
-
maintaining fences around property
-
land management (clearing path for riding/mowing/bailing hay/plowing fields/weeding beds/planting produce etc...)
-
house care (basic maintenance of main home and surrounding buildings such as painting, electrical, plumbing, pool maintenance etc...)
-
animal care (feeding/scheduling vets/farriers/administering medications)
This role requires a Jack-or-Jill-of-all-trades personality. One day you'll be mending fences, the next you'll be planting beds for organic produce and the next you'll be on horseback exercising one of our horses. In addition to the daily responsibilities of keeping the farm up and running we need someone with comfortability tending to horses everyday needs (feed/water/scheduling routine vet care etc…). You don't need to be the consummate horseperson but you should be comfortable working with large animals and willing to learn.
There are regular duties required on a daily basis to maintain the property but most importantly we need someone who is a problem solver and will fix something when they see it. A take charge personality is preferred and an entrepreneurial attitude and strong work ethic are required.
The current workload (for the next 3-6 months) will be centered around bringing the farm back up to running speed (fixing fences/establishing new pastures/clearing paths/building new structures) with a long-term goal (6-months+) of starting a small-scale organic produce farm. This role has plenty of growth potential for the right person.
Come work on some of the most gorgeous land in North Carolina and be part of something special!
