ISSUE NO. 474

PLAY HARD TO WORK HARD . . .

One might read our newsletters and think that we are in the constant pursuit of leisure. Quite the contrary. We love nothing more than productive work. Work that makes a difference. We just find that the quickest route to work well done is by honoring the time and space we need to rest our bodies and minds.

We can speak from experience. We've fallen in the trap multiple times - it's easy for the cycle of endless work hours and burn out to creep up on you. And we're always reminded that when we slow things down that is when the ideas re-appear, when our work becomes more swift and much better.

For those working in the field of agriculture, winter is often a time to wind down from the fall harvest and do some much-needed indoor work and resting. If you're a farmer, or an aspiring farmer, looking to increase your winter productivity, the lottery is now open for the Young Farmers Conference at Stone Barns Center in Pocantico Hills, NY, taking place this year on the weekend of December 4-6. Anyone with one to eight years of experience farming can apply to attend, and the applications are open for just another two days. We hope you'll join us there - we'll be on site to talk about hiring and getting hired, on farm and off!

Here's to better, more productive, more fulfilling work - and the rest that makes it possible.
