Job Description Chef (Westchester County, NY)

Café-restaurant and catering establishment in Katonah, NY seeks an experienced and skilled chef.   

The Katonah Reading Room is currently gearing up for its grand opening.  We are a café and gourmet market with a farm to table philosophy.  Candidates must be interested in, and embrace the start up phase of our operations.   

The Chef will be responsible for all back-of-house elements, including preparing food daily for take away and cafe service, special orders and catered events.

Specifically, the Chef will:

• Develop menus
• Cost menu items
• Manage food costs
• Manage ordering for café, restaurant and catering
• Create and manage kitchen schedules
• Mentor and support back-of-house staff
• Liaise between kitchen and front-of-house staff
• Operate an immaculate and safe facility 

Ideal candidate must:

• Have proven knowledge of cooking procedures, safety and sanitation
• Be intimately familiar with multiple kitchen stations
• Ensure quality of product and accuracy
• Be able to lift 25 lbs or more 
• Hold DOH certification or Serv Safe Certification 

Reporting Relationships:

• Chef will report to General Manager
• Back-of-house staff will report to Chef 

Hours:

• Full Time: 5 to 6 Days a week 

Compensation:  

• $50,000-$65,000 commensurate with experience
