The Urban Food Initiative (UFI), d.b.a. Daily Table, is a nonprofit food store which seeks to transform and revolutionize how food retail is supplied in America’s inner cities, and alleviates obstacles to inner-city health and nutrition by providing fresh produce and other high-quality foods to the urban marketplace at a fraction of the typical prices. Founded by former Trader Joe’s President, Doug Rauch, Daily Table envisions creating a retail environment that will redistribute excess high-quality food items to the inner city. By fostering strategic partnerships with large supermarketsand other retail grocers, UFI will help address the paradoxical issues of domestic hunger and obesity in America’s inner cities.

Position Description:

Daily Table is looking for someone to join our team as the Truck Driver and Aggregator. The position is essential to ourproject to ensure timely pickups (regimented and impromptu) of donated foods from new and established pickup sites in the Greater Boston area. This person will help to build and maintain solid and professional relationships with our vendors while demonstrating professionalism and a great deal of punctuality. In addition, this person will have an interest in Daily Table’s Mission which is to decrease hunger, poor nutrition, and obesity in the inner city while educating and providing access to affordable, high-quality fresh food.

Qualified candidates will have experience driving a box truck up to 26 ft, making pickups and deliveries, and a great sense of direction and experience navigating in and around the Greater Boston area. The ideal candidate will share the vision of the organization and have a passion for creating a positive, scalable, and sustainable impact in low- to moderate-income urban neighborhoods. Daily Table has an incredibly collaborative work environment: we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the extraordinary commitment and flexibility of our staff. We are looking for someone that can (within reason) cover for staff in various departments. Beyond just a "driving" job, Daily Table’s Driverrepresents our organization when traveling to our donors and pick up sites. The Driver must have good interpersonal skills and an ability to juggle and prioritize tasks on the go.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The pickup and delivery of donated, perishable products is essential to executing our mission of providing healthy foodsto the communities we serve. Below are the essential duties for the Truck Driver position:

• Obeys traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
• Inspects and maintains vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition
• Reports any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles
• Loads and unloads trucks, vans, or automobiles and helps store them in appropriate areas of the kitchen and storage areas
• Maintains good records such as vehicle logs, records collected foods, and loss of product
• Assures recovered foods meets in-house guidelines
• Reports delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to management.

• Good driving record and vision
• At least 3 years of light truck and/or delivery van experience
• Experience with a pallet jack, dollies and other light relocation equipment
• Great communication skills
• Experience navigating in and around the Greater Boston area
• Willing to help out in other areas within the organization after deliveries and pickups are completed
• A strong belief in the potential of Daily Table and understanding of the need for affordable, healthy food options in the urban market
