Job Description Summary:  Preserving Place is a cooking classroom, specialty food shop and purveyor of house made, small batch food in jars and supplies for the do-it-yourself home cook, as well as a gathering place for the local good food community interested in preserving our food heritage in our place on the map, Atlanta, Georgia.  Our mission is to preserve our Southern food heritage and local foodshed and serve as the go-to place for food preservation in Atlanta.  By sourcing our ingredients from local farmers and promoting home food preservation, we will increase markets for our local farmers who can increase their profitability and grow more food. We want to hire team members who are excited about our mission and committed to doing what it takes to help make a start up company a success, with an opportunity for growth and creativity. 

Duties  
*knowledgeably and courteously interact with customers by answering questions  and offer advice on what products to purchase to meet customer’s need 
*taste and be familiar with all Preserving Place and other artisan food products sold in the store and educate customers in particular about the quality of Preserving Place’s preserved foods and the care with which they are sourced and made and be able to suggest ways to use them 
*become familiar with the background of the craftsmen whose hand made products are carried in the store and educate customers about the value of the goods for sale 
*answer phone calls 
*welcome customers by greeting them, offering assistance and hospitality 
*assist with the presentation and merchandising of all products for sale in the store 
*assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the store (retail space, kitchen and back of house; check bathroom and clean as needed) 
*provide knowledgeable, courteous service to customers *help customers make selections by answering questions, learning what is of interest to the customer, and offering suggestions and opinions 
*document sales and inventory 
*serve as back-up support to ensure classes, putting up parties and special events provide an excellent customer experience by: setting up the kitchen and student work space, maintaining cleanliness and appearance of kitchen and meeting room, preparing and offering hospitality to guests, assisting culinary instructors with class preparation according to instructor preference 
*back-up support to provide technology assistance by ensuring security equipment, POS system, and any other technological device run properly; able to fix technology issues at first level  
*cultivate good relationships with customers by learning about and understanding their needs and interests and building personal relationships, so that Preserving Place can provide good value, the products and services our customers want, and a friendly, hospitable environment where all customers feel welcome  
*assist in preparing labels for packaging 
*pack products to be shipped to customers

*proficient in English, both written and spoken word 
*ability to work independently and effectively with little supervision
