WWOOF-USA® is a membership-based nonprofit organization. Our mission is to be part of a worldwide effort to link visitors with organic farmers, promote a cultural and educational exchange, and build a global community conscious of organic farming practices. To facilitate linking visitors (WWOOFers) with host farms, WWOOF-USA produces a directory of organic farms, communities, and garden projects in the USA that can host 'WWOOFers', and provide room, board, and hands-on experience in sustainable living. WWOOF recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, and WWOOF-USA has been operating in the USA since 2001.
Position Description:
Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms -- USA (WWOOF-USA®) is hiring a Program Manager, and is accepting applications now for a full-time salaried position.
The primary function of this position is to coordinate WWOOF-USA membership and communications in order to keep the organization operating smoothly and efficiently.
To accomplish this goal, the Program Manager will:
- Provide membership services and respond to inquiries by phone or email
- Manage and monitor a high traffic website (Wordpress) and online database (CiviCRM)
- Improve website capabilities and database functions as needed
- Increase outreach through social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), quarterly newsletter, and other outlets
- Prepare and mail the WWOOF Host Farm Directory and other mailings
- Assist with membership registrations and issue refunds, as needed
- Monitor online WWOOF-USA forums and contribute as needed
- Manage WWOOF-USA's comments, complaints, and other membership policies
- Layout and publish the 400 page hardcopy of the Host Farm Directory once per year
- Attend and exhibit at events across the US throughout the year (approx. 9 per year)
- Visit host farmers throughout the year
- Present written reports at bi-monthly board of directors meetings and at annual retreat
- Act as the secretary of the board of directors, including taking meeting minutes and posting them in a timely manner
- Work independently on projects, with regular progress reports to executive director
- Manage office needs, supplies and promotional materials
- Collaborate with executive director and board of directors on projects to further the organization's mission
Required:
- Bachelors degree, preferably in Communications, or another field with relevant job experience that demonstrates strong public relations and communications skills
- Willingness to be a public face for WWOOF-USA
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage and update websites using Wordpress, CiviCRM, and MailChimp, or similar programs
- Highly motivated to take initiative and see projects through
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to travel locally and nationally to attend outreach events several times per year
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Apple Mail
- Capable to work both independently and as part of a small team of two full-time staff
- Ability to work well with the public, farmers, WWOOFers, and a board of directors
- Interest in the organic farming movement, sustainable agriculture, and/ or WWOOF
- Experience with non-profit organization or program management
- Public relations skills and experience working with the media
- Experience with desktop publishing or professional print jobs
- Familiarity using Paypal Pro or similar payment program
- Experience farming or WWOOFing a plus
This position is full-time. Start date is April 1, 2015 with a required paid training period March 17-31, 2015. The position will be located at the WWOOF-USA office in San Francisco, with some possibility of office relocation outside of San Francisco city in the next three years. Must be able to commit to position for a minimum of one year.
