Tour Guide/Class Leader Raaka Chocolate

Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION
We are currently seeking a Tour Guide/Teacher for our Chocolate Factory Classes. The job entails knowledgeably leading tours at our factory and teaching our Chocolate Making Classes. Additionally, there will be opportunities to host chocolate tasting demos at offsite locations and stores.

A bit about Raaka:

We are Raaka Chocolate, a young company making organic, fair trade, bean-to-bar chocolate in Red Hook, Brooklyn. We make chocolate from unroasted cacao to preserve the unique character of each bean.  Our process is gentle; our flavors are vibrant. We call this virgin chocolate. Our unique process preserves each region’s wild flavors, offering bold and complex flavors. We're a social venture committed to operating in ways that improve quality of life in cocoa growing communities and in our beloved Brooklyn. We pay premiums to farmers through a direct trade model. We respect the environment and use sustainable practices and fair-trade, organic ingredients. We believe in a joyful work environment, and we practice direct, open, and honest communication. Oh, and yes... we get to sample chocolate as we work. :)

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead 1 hour tours of 12-16 people through our chocolate making facility every Friday from 5-6 and sunday from 10-8
  • Teach our 2 hour Chocolate Classes, which will involve learning about the characteristics and properties of cacao beans, the process of grinding chocolate, and the tempering process.
  • Learn from our current team about the history of chocolate and the process of chocolate making, as well as the the mission of Raaka as a craft chocolate maker
  • Speak knowledgeably about our company and answer any questions about Raaka or the process of making chocolate
  • Lead infrequent demos at offsite locations where you will engage the community in talking about our product and hosting tastings of our chocolate. This can range from 2-5 demos a month.
  • Job requires arriving an hour and a half early to set up tours and classes and an additional hour and a half of cleaning equipment and getting space back to production ready
Possible Responsibilities:
  • Could include helping production package products during times of heavy output
  • Support production if possibilities arise

  • Ability to retain facts about multiple processes pertaining to the production of chocolate and the history of chocolate.

In return, we offer:

  • $180 for a full day each weekend of 1 tour and 2 classes. Arriving for set up at our factory at 9:00 AM and leaving at 8:00 PM
  • $50 for an additional Friday weekday tour starting at 5:00 PM and ending at 9:00 PM at our factory in Redhook
  • $70 for each demo hosted sporadically. These occur at off site shops and locations. You travel there with samples and set-up from our factory , arrive a half an hour early and run the demo for 3 hours.
