POSITION PURPOSE: The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is seeking a Master Food Preserver (MFP)/Food Entrepreneurship Academic Coordinator I to develop and oversee an annual statewide plan that implements the priorities established by the current Nutrition Family and Consumer Science (NFCS) Strategic Plan. The academic coordinator will serve as a liaison between MFP and NFCS administration to assist with understanding and implementation of MFP, NFCS, UC and ANR policies and activities and coordinate with the Program Integration Coordinator, Strategic Initiative Leaders and Cooperative Extension (CE) advisors to establish program priorities while forging cross-initiative and interdisciplinary collaboration and program delivery.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and oversees a strategic vision process to involve key stakeholders such as UCCE, community partnerships and UC affiliates.
  • Serves as liaison between MFP and NFCS administration and volunteers to assist with understanding and implementation of MFP, NFCS, UC and ANR policies and activities.
  • Represents and advocates for the statewide MFP program within the public and private sectors. Promotes local program awareness and understanding of the research efforts of UC.
  • Coordinates with the Program Integration Coordinator, Strategic Initiative Leaders and MFP CE Advisors to establish program priorities and to forge cross-initiative and interdisciplinary collaboration and program delivery.
  • Performs needs assessment to assess needs and opportunities for the MFP program and potential for UCCE Food Entrepreneurship programming.
  • Oversees the distribution of research-based information to MFP volunteers through MFP coordinators, working with the appropriate CE specialists, CE advisors, and faculty.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  An earned Master’s degree or other advanced degree in Nutrition/ Food Science, Food Entrepreneurship, Food Safety, Culinary Skills/ Nutrition Education, Family and Consumer Sciences or other related field is required by the appointment start date. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Experience coordinating or managing an educational program and/or volunteer program required. Experience supervising others in either a paid or unpaid capacity required. Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint), databases and web-based tools (calendar/documents and social media) is required. Ability to organize and prioritize activities to meet programmatic and fiscal work plans is required. Successful funds development experience required. Experience working independently and as a team member is required.  Effective leadership, team building and decision-making skills and commitment to promoting a positive workplace is required. General knowledge of budgets and accounting desirable. Demonstrated interest and understanding of food product development from concept to consumption preferred. Experience with under-served populations and strategic planning preferred. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
 

SALARY: Beginning salary will be in the Academic Coordinator I rank and commensurate with applicable experience and professional qualifications.
