Job description

The Cooking Matters Program Coordinator position works closely with the Cooking Matters Senior Manager to implement and support all aspects of the program in accordance with state and national goals and policies.  The Program Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to coordinate the signature six-week healthy cooking and nutrition course and to schedule and facilitate one-time grocery store tours.

 

                                                       DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Coordinate high quality courses and tours statewide: serve as the liaison with community partners, maintain regular communication with volunteer teams, and address unexpected programmatic challenges as they arise, elevating as necessary.
  • Identify community partners within a designated region that would be appropriate course and tour partners, and assess their interest in the program; conduct ongoing assessment of existing partners to ensure programming meets quality standards and adheres to funding and priority audience goals.
  • Schedule 50-75 grocery store tours annually in compliance with SNAP-ed goals by building and maintaining a network of community partners, assessing staff capacity, and assigning staff to implement tours according to guidelines provided.
  • Determine needs for each individual Cooking Matters program and complete preparations, including gathering equipment, supplies, and groceries that adhere to the program budget; and transporting supplies.
  • Coach volunteer instructors on use of training materials and curricula to communicate key messages in ways that are relevant and applicable to the lives of program participants, including regular constructive feedback.
  • As needed, fill the culinary or nutrition instructor role and/or provide Spanish interpretation or translation.
  • Identify and participate in opportunities to recruit and train volunteers, and provide recognition for their efforts. Build relationships with chefs, dietitians, and nutritionists to maintain enough trained instructors to reach course goals.
  • Execute assigned annual projects such as social media for No Kid Hungry Massachusetts, inventory and ordering of all supplies and materials, and policy, system, and environment change work.
  • Complete all program and financial reporting in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

                                                            QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish required.
  • Experienced coursework and/or credentials in Culinary or Nutrition/Dietetics preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work people from a variety of demographic backgrounds, including professional chefs, social service providers, volunteers, and participants.
  • Quick problem-solving skills and flexibility to complete ad hoc tasks.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to balance a variety of tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience with volunteer management preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software programs and online platforms.
  • Driver's license and car required. 
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
