Founded in 1979, Washington State Farmers Market Association (WSFMA) serves 110-member farmers markets and their vendors through essential business services, targeted education and training, and advocacy around key policy issues. Our flagship event is an annual conference held each winter. As a 501c3 nonprofit, the WSFMA team is guided by a statewide board of directors, and has a lean staff with an office in Seattle.  

Job description

The WSFMA Food Access Coordinator supports organizational and programmatic activities of the WSFMA with a focus on supporting farmers markets' food access programs to support low-income shoppers. This position is currently funded primarily by a multi-year contract with the Department of Social and Human Services for SNAP Education work.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership, expertise, and training in Food Access Programs at Farmers Markets.
  • Provide support to member farmers markets to help problem-solve real-time challenges and opportunities regarding their food access programs.
  • Contribute up-to-date information on food access programs for all related WSFMA training and educational materials.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food access programs at farmers markets, including SNAP, the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, matching programs, donations to food banks, and others. This includes understanding all USDA and state program rules and administration; technical components including EBT equipment, related policy initiatives, and funding mechanisms. It also includes familiarity with all key agency, public health, nonprofit partners at local, regional, and state levels.
  • Lead, manage, and support a team of 10 contractors who are working in 13 regions to implement deliverables for the DSHS contract and other grants. These positions, called “Regional Leads” are part-time farmers market managers and partners who provide support to farmers markets in primarily their designated geographic area.
  • Manage DSHS SNAP Ed grant budget, billing, reporting, and partner relationships.
  • Represent farmers markets in initiatives around food access.
  • Support for the annual conference as well as ongoing training, education, and sharing resources with farmers market organizers, including manager, staff, board, volunteers, and vendors.
  • Support WSFMA communications, including website, electronic and print materials, for both internal audiences, member farmers markets, and external partners and public.
  • Effectively, efficiently, and responsibly manage organizational and other relevant WSFMA information.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Direct experience and demonstrated understanding of Washington State farmers markets, direct marketing, community-based organizations, and/or related work.
  • Experience with farmers market food access programs (FMNP, SNAP, Incentives, EBT technology, and third-party processors).
  • Experience in developing, funding, managing grant-funded projects with multiple goals, objectives and activities, including budget management, report writing, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience as an effective manager who takes a collaborative approach.
  • Must be able both to work effectively as member of team and independently as a self-starter comfortable working without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, emailing, and participating in conference calls.
  • Highly organized, with excellent information management skills, and able to juggle multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer services skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with adult education.
  • A dynamic and engaging public speaker comfortable leading meetings.
  • Able to travel statewide.
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, DropBox, Zoom, WordPress; Adobe design products. Graphic design, proficient in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. Experience using QuickBooks.
  • Education in food systems, social sciences, community development, nonprofit management, public health, or related discipline.

The WSFMA office is currently located at Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle, WA. Remote work from within Washington State will be considered for strong candidates.
