Company description Longnook Meadows Farm is a small organic vegetable and fruit farm located on Longnook Road in Truro, MA founded by Peter and Dilys Staaterman. Peter and Dilys retired to their farm on Longnook road in 2005. We are striving to become Artisan Growers with many specialty varieties that are unusual and not readily available in the supermarkets. Our crops are grown from heirloom or organically grown seeds. This year we have extensive varieties in each vegetable category.

Longnook Meadows Farm’s history begins in the 1700’s. It is situated in an area that was part of the Pamet Lands dating from 1709. Home of the Pamet Indians, also known as “The People of the First Light. Job description Summary: This full-time position spans the entire growing season and involves work in all aspects of organic vegetable production. Our farm is committed to all organic and sustainable practices. You will learn how to grow organically, create soil for sustainable growing and Greenhouse/ High Tunnel tomato growing trellising techniques. In addition to field work, this person also assumes responsibility for maintaining our farm stand from June through October.
Work schedule: From April-October, the work schedule will be five days per week. A typical farm workday will be 8:00 to 4:00, although we may start earlier in exceptionally hot weather. Expect 45-50 hours/week from May to August, 30-35 hours/week in April and October.


Work Activities and Responsibilities:
Full-season Crew Members will be involved in most aspects of production over the course of the season. Areas of work include the following:

Greenhouse work (seeding, watering, and monitoring flats for transplant production)laying out irrigation lines. Transplanting In-ground crop management in a high tunnel (planting, pruning, trellising)
Field maintenance, including weeding, thinning, trellising, irrigating, backpack spraying, installing/removing row cover, fence upkeep, and end-of-season field clean-up (plastic mulch, irrigation tubes, and trellis removal).
Harvesting, washing, and packing for wholesale orders and the farm stand keeping appropriate records.

Some tractor work, for someone with interest in and aptitude for equipment operation. Setting up the farm stand and restocking as needed.

Expectations and qualifications
Previous work experience on vegetable farms is a big plus, but is not necessary so long as the individual is eager to learn. We’re looking for someone who is physically fit (able to lift 50 lbs, bend over or crouch to weed and harvest), detail-oriented, and self-motivated. For managing the farm stand a friendly demeanor, good customer service skills, and the ability to meet customer needs are a plus.

Farming is incredibly rewarding, but not always glorious. Although we try to mix up work activities to keep things interesting, some days will be monotonous. Our crew is a team, and the ability to work collaboratively with others is essential. We work quickly and efficiently, and expect our employees to do the same. We seek an individual who is always looking for a faster and more effective way to complete a task. But above all, we strive to create an open, positive, and fun work environment.

COMPENSATION
This position is paid on a hourly rate based on experience. It is full time for the season.

Housing - Shared Accommodations are Available for a nominal rent in an antique renovated barn located on the farm.
