Granor Farm is seeking a Grain Production Specialist to help operate our rapidly expanding organic grains program. In recent years, we have made significant investments to our grain equipment and on-farm storage capability, and are continuing to pursue more avenues to increase the number of acres we farm. We seek to sell the vast majority of our grain locally, and much of it is sold to local breweries and distilleries. We research and implement the most progressive organic agronomic strategies for grain production, including multi-year crop rotation, intercropping and underseeding, and routine, intensive observation and record-keeping.
The Grain Production Specialist will be responsible for participating in all aspects of grain operations with a focus on field work and routine equipment maintenance. This includes, but is not limited to: planting, fertilizing, cultivating, tillage operations, and harvest. The Grain Production Specialist should possess an ability to understand the mechanical systems of tractors, trucks, grain bins, and harvesting equipment on the farm. This person will report to the Operations Manager and will provide support in all facets of grain production. A qualified candidate will have a certain propensity for understanding mechanical systems, be comfortable operating large machinery, be able to work independently for long periods of time, and be willing to learn new tasks with enthusiasm. The candidate will be responsible for completing many field operations independently, and must have a keen attention to detail. As with any type of farm labor, the work varies greatly depending on the season. During the off-season, or as needed, additional responsibilities can include: property upkeep and maintenance, equipment overhaul/maintenance, livestock care, grain transport, and general property management and infrastructure upkeep.
The qualified candidate will have 2+ full seasons of farming experience on a grain or livestock farm. A valid driver’s license, tractor experience, a high-school GED or equivalent, and the ability to regularly lift 75 lbs. are required. A qualified candidate will be self-motivated, positive, and energetic with a strong work ethic, be capable of working outdoors in all conditions, and occasionally for long hours (seasonal). The candidate must be able to follow very specific instructions to achieve desired outcomes, and must be a prudent and thoughtful decision-maker. Desire to become, or continue to be, a part of the Harbor Country community and dedication to commercial organic grain production is a must.
This is a full-time, seasonal position with possible on-farm housing available. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. For the right candidate, this seasonal position will be extended to year-round, with rapid opportunities for advancement and management.Compensation this position is : contract Application instructions
