Butterworks Farm is a farm where a cow can be a cow.From Spring and Summer’s luscious rotationally grazed pastures to Fall and Winter’s cushy bedded pack solar barn our girls live the good life in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. These happy cows make rich, creamy, high protein milk. Our exceptional artisan yogurts, kefirs, buttermilk and delicious heavy cream are produced right on the farm in our own dairy plant with love and care you can taste. We tend and nurture the soil, the pasture, the crops and the cows to provide the highest quality food for the tables of our customers, employees and friends. We are a forty year strong family farm.
Our cows are a herd of very friendly and sometimes precocious Jerseys. Each has her own name and stanchion in the barn during milking. We choose Jerseys for their ability to produce milk on a 100% grass-fed diet. High fiber and mineral rich grasses, legumes and forages are available to our cows always in the lush, rotationally grazed pastures of summer and the sweet hay in the winter solar barn.
This quality before quantity focus is upheld in our breeding as well. We choose only bulls whose daughters are good grazers and produce milk with high nutritional components. All our cows are born here on the farm. Weaned from milk at five months, turned out on pasture at six months, bred at fifteen months, and after having their first calves at twenty-four months are introduced to being milked.
By the time they are three years old, these hard-working girls are all business, producing milk of exceptional quality and creaminess and providing a perfect foundation for our superb line of dairy products.
Job description Butterworks Farm is seeking a general manager to manage and grow our successful farm and creamery in the years to come. We are a pioneering organic dairy farm and creamery that has focused on soil health and regenerative practices for the past 40 years. We are looking for an individual with an understanding of agriculture and value-added production who is both organized and business savvy. We have a great product line and wonderful farm, and are looking for a competent individual to continue our tradition of business success paired with truly sustainable farming.
