Assistant Kitchen Manager Short Winter Soups

Company description Short Winter Soups provides inspired, high-integrity soups through 8-week "soup subscriptions" year round & through select retail markets.  Short Winter Soups started in 2010 with the idea that nutritionally-dense, fabulous soup could also be convenient and affordable for customers.  We work directly with small sustainable farms in North Carolina to highlight the bounty and variety of seasonal produce that the state grows.  Our soups are vegetarian.

Our soup subscriptions sell out quickly and orders are delivered locally to a variety of residential, retail and business pick-up locations in central North Carolina (we do not ship).    

In 2017, Short Winter Soups launched a retail arm to expand on the subscription program, allowing customers to be able to pick-up their favorite soups during the week and weekends at the Carrboro Farmers' Market, one of the oldest farmers' markets in the state. Job description The assistant kitchen manager's job consists of:
1 prep chef shift per week on Mondays
2 half-day shifts of running deliveries and errands on Tuesdays and Thursdays

PREP CHEF RESPONSIBILITIES (approx. 6 hours/week)
Work as part of a small team in the kitchen to perform shift tasks based on prep lists furnished by Manager. Tasks include washing, peeling, and chopping a variety and large volume of vegetables; cooking or baking off individual ingredients; packaging and labeling product; dishes and general clean-up. 

**APPLICANT SHOULD HAVE:
  • production kitchen or other relevant BOH food preparation experience.  Experienced and enthusiastic home cooks encouraged to apply.
  • solid knife skills
  • a sense of urgency and ability to anticipate effective use of labor when working.
  • the ability to follow prep notes, and do basic math as it relates to cooking and scaling.
  • a current ServSafe certificate, preferred
  • Monday daytime availability for 6 hr shift
  • Reliable transportation to our kitchen near downtown Hillsborough

DELIVERY DRIVER RESPONSIBILITIES (approx. 7 hours/week)
Perform pack out from kitchen and run deliveries (in your own vehicle) to Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Durham. Buy ingredients from stores and farmers' markets. 

**APPLICANT SHOULD HAVE:
  • their own vehicle, with fold-down seats or a large trunk for deliveries and errands.
  • a valid US driver's license and a clean driving record
  • the ability to repeatedly lift 30-50 pounds
  • access to email and text on the road, and be prompt at responding to messages
  • Tuesday morning availability for 4 hr shift
  • Thursday and/or Saturday morning availability for other driving responsibilities, approximately 3 hrs/week 
Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
