The FARM Institute is a 162¬-acre teaching farm on the island of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, providing year-round, farm-based educational programs for families. Programs focus on farming, sustainability, nutrition, and land stewardship. 

The Visitor Services and Farm Stand position primary responsibility is to engage visitors as they enter the farm stand and direct them to where they need to be (even if that is just at the farm stand). Position is also responsible for opening and closing procedures of the shop and all sales that occur in stand. This position is our first and sometime only point of contact with visitors, so being out-going and a good representative for the farm is very important!

Essential Functions

• Welcoming visitors to the farm and directing them to tours, camp, or other points of interest

• Keep informed of special events and group program schedules

• Maintain a neat, clean and inviting shop

• Operate point of sale system, process sales, count and balance drawer

• Opening and closing farm stand

• Assisting customers with purchase of meat, vegetables, and other merchandise

• Registering participants for workshops, camp, or to become a member

• Basic upkeep and watering of plants surrounding the farm stand

• Inventory of merchandise upon infrequent request (generally twice a summer)

• Attending the farmer’s market including preparing the coolers and loading/unloading the truck, loading/unloading at the market, setting up the stand and pop-up tent, manning all sales.

• Representing the farm at the market
