A new market/café is coming to the Sperryville, VA neighborhood! Off the Grid will feature healthy, flavorful breakfast/lunch options, reflecting the abundant, seasonal offerings from the surrounding area farms with an emphasis on vegan and vegetarian cuisine.  The concept; global flavors, locally sourced and responsibly served.  Eat and drink consciously, as every aspect of the business is designed with concern for the environment, including small-scale sustainable farm partnering, Net-zero on-site renewable energy production, Zero-waste on-site composting, recycling, use of reclaimed material and eco-friendly packaging.

Job description The perfect candidate will have culinary and management experience, a passion for food and wellness, excel at customer service, is like minded in reducing the carbon footprint, holds a high regard for quality products, is looking for an opportunity to grow personally and professionally, and wants to contribute skills and ideas to a small team with a big vision! 
Responsible for managing the daily operations of a professional kitchen together with/and/or in the absence of the General Manager.  Including but not limited to…
  • hiring, development and performance management of kitchen employees;
  • product selection, inventory, and ordering;
  • food cost, budgets, and production schedules
  • assure food quality and presentation;  
  • opening and closing procedures;
  • knowledgeable of all aspects of daily operations; operating the POS system, running daily reports, balancing cash drawers, assuring cleanliness of store BOH & FOH;
  • understanding guidelines for recycling, composting, reducing and reusing;
  • superior customer service and product knowledge;
  • operate bar/barista station as well as food service station as needed;
  • create daily specials and seasonal menus, special events and catering;
  • assist with social media;
  • ServSafe Certified;
  • daily communication with team regarding product availability, specials, and other relevant information.  
  • evaluate daily practices and collaborate with team members on creative ideas, what we do well, how we can do better, areas for growth, etc… 

Compensation:  $15/hr
Evaluation Period:  6 Month/12 Month

Health Benefits:  Employee will have access to discounted health benefits.  Employer will cover 50% of the basic package. Policy upgrades are the responsibility of the employee.   

Paid Time Off:  One (1) week PTO in the first year of employment, after six months of work, to be scheduled in advance with the General Manager.  

Continuing Education: You are allotted a $500 professional development budget in first year of employment to be used to explore ideas, enhance skills, learn new trends and techniques that will promote Off The Grid’s mission. This can be used for conferences, expos, cookbooks and guides, culinary courses, and other ventures; whether related to food preparation, nutrition, culinary programming, farming, or sustainability.

Bonus Incentive:  After-hours or catered events, on or off site, such as but not limited to, weddings, wine dinners, private parties, promotional events, cooking demos, etc… will pay out event pay plus additional __% on all food and beverage sales.
