The purpose of the market is to provide a service to the community by offering consumers a local source of high quality, locally/regionally grown produce and freshly made food products. The Market will advance and promote the appreciation of local farmers, culinary artists and chefs who specialize in local, freshly produced wholesome food by providing a marketplace for local area family farms, chefs and craft food artisan producers to sell their crops, baked goods and other products direct to consumers, helping to maximize critical revenue for local and regional farmers/farm families, artisan producers and local businesses supporting agriculture.
The Market helps grow our local economy, provides a center for local agricultural and culinary information, increases the community’s knowledge about facts, issues, trends in agriculture, food preparation and culinary techniques, while building relationships that help sustain our communities.
Job descriptionThis is a customer and community-facing position, year-round with at least 28 market Sundays, Mother’s Day to Thanksgiving week. On market days, the market manager (MM) runs “the show,” with the assistance of a site coordinator, and volunteers which the MM secures via school and community outreach.
MM must be able to lift up to 40lbs comfortably and be one his/her feet for approx. 8 to 9 hours for set up and break down monitoring/coordination.
Experience and skills sought: marketing – both traditional free media, paid advertising, e-mail/text outreach, and social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Demonstrated success with advertising via Facebook is a plus. Photography and copy writing skills are important. communication – diverse vendor and customer bases require skills to recognize and solve problems on the fly, while also building rapport to further establish WVFM as the premier Orange County market organizational – track and comply with gov’t reporting requirements like EBT/Snap/FMNP; liaison with various county and state agencies as needed; monitor all market activities to ensure vendor compliance with market rules & regulations planning/vision – the MM secures community partners and entertainment like chefs, musicians and others to round out the market experience for our customers
The MM reports to the WVFM Steering Committee, comprised of elected vendor and consumer reps. The WVFM SC meets regularly all year, more so in the late winter/spring to review vendor applications, plan budgets and advertising, collect fees and file other paperwork as needed. The MM is expected at all SC and any other ad-hoc vendor meetings.
WVFM MM should have his/her own work space/computer/internet access. Compensation commensurate with experience; WVFM issues a 1099. Compensation this position is : contract Application instructions
