Farm Intern Lucky Leaf Farm

  • Date Posted March 28, 2019
  • Location Baldwin, GA
  • Category Agriculture / Culinary
  • Job type Internship/Apprentice
Company description We are a small diversified vegetable farm, that is certified naturally grown. We take pride in how the food is grown and focus on freshness and quality when bringing it to the market. This will be our fourth year in operation and are excited about the many growth opportunities happening this year. We mostly sell our goods at farmers markets, but are looking to expand to a CSA model as well with the right addition this year. Another exciting adventure is our new prepared vegan food line that is coming out called Lazy Legume.  We are currently farming 2 acres with lots of room to grow. Our farm sits on 57 acres of woodlands and pasture with several spring fed creeks on the property. We are animal lovers and eat a plant based diet on the farm. We have the best of both worlds here close to everything, but still secluded when on the farm. Learn more about us at www.luckyleaffarm.com Internship description Daily tasks would involve feeding animals twice a day, and any number of tasks around the farm. Examples would be but not limited to weeding, seeding in grow house, direct seeding, transplanting, moving mulch and compost, harvesting and packaging produce, and interacting with clients at the farmers market. Saturday is one of our market days, This would be a long day starting early in the morning and going until early evening. Most days on the farm will be an ebb and flow of tasks depending on weather and what needs to be accomplished. Long rewarding days will be the norm.

Educational Opportunities: There are many educational opportunities on our farm. The vegetable production has many opportunities to learn from general knowledge of how the plants are started and grown to trouble shooting any pests or diseases we may encounter. We are also starting mushroom production this year, so that will come with a wealth of knowledge.

Skills Desired: First and foremost you must enjoy being on a farm and putting in the hard work. This is a lifestyle more than a job. It would be great to find someone with an expert knowledge of vegetable production, but realistically any exposure to farming would be great. We are more than willing to train someone who can show enthusiasm and endurance for this type of physical labor.

Meals: 2 meals a day are included with most of the food coming from the farming operation so be prepared to eat lots of the same foods as they come into season :) You will have access to a full sized kitchen to cook all your meals.

Stipend: $125/wk

Housing: You will have your own heated and cooled private bedroom and bathroom with closet storage. Bed and dresser storage provided. This bedroom is located in our grow-house which is the heart of our farming operation. Although your bedroom is private, there will be foot traffic in and out of the house all day long. This space is also where we grow our seedlings and start our sprouts. . Also, the outside space will be utilized by the family/owners on a regular basis, so although you can definitely have your privacy, it is best to think of this as a community living situation. Only approved guests are allowed on property for security purposes and will only be implemented after a 90 day trial period unless arranged at time of hire. The best fit would be someone who works and lives on the farm, but plays and visits friends off the farm. Compensation this position is : stipend / non-monetary compensation
